We compared simultaneous measurements of stroke volume by direct Fick (SVF) and noninvasive pulsed Doppler (SVD) techniques in 15 resting, supine cardiac patients. Doppler measurements of ascending aorta blood velocity were obtained from the suprasternal notch with a single crystal transducer.
