Salmonella enterica serotype Paratyphi A is a highly clonal organism; pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) is insufficient in discriminating isolates. A multilocus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA) was developed, and its usefulness in discriminating isolates was compared.
