The purposes of this study were to determine quantitatively the amount of debris and irrigant forced in an apical direction, the frequency of apical plug development, and the time required to prepare canals when a step-back technique using K-files was compared with the .04 Taper system. Sixty-nine extracted teeth with straight canals were divided into four statistically similar groups.
