We investigated the difference in transient heart rate reduction associated with brief acupuncture in 20 healthy subjects at rest in a supine and in a sitting position. After the subjects had been at rest for about 20 minutes, acupuncture needling using the sparrow-pecking method, in which the needle is moved vertically lifting and thrusting, was performed for one minute at the Shousanli point on the right forearm (LI10). The procedure was carried out with the subjects in a supine position and…
Effect of acupuncture on the haemodynamic system in men
TLDR
This study indicates that HR reduction during acupuncture does occur, as previous reports have indicated, and CO was maintained during these changes.
Effects of Acupuncture Sensations on Transient Heart Rate Reduction and Autonomic Nervous System Function During Acupuncture Stimulation.
TLDR
Acupuncture stimulation reduced HR even without De Qi sensations and caused ANS function to be parasympathetic-dominant, irrespective of the perception of acupuncture sensations.
Acupuncture Relaxation, Vigilance Stage, and Autonomic Nervous System Function: A Comparative Study of Their Interrelationships.
TLDR
Alterations in background EEG activities were not the primary factors changing ANS function to parasympathetic-dominant and decreasing HR, but these alterations related to a weak secondary factor changing AnS function.
The effect of different types of acupuncture manipulations on shoulder pain and cardiovascular circulation dynamics
TLDR
There was no significant difference between the two groups on CO, SV, BPs, BPd and VAS, and had significant difference on PR (P < 0.05), but there was significant difference in VAS within each group.
Acupuncture-induced changes of vagal function in patients with depression: A preliminary sham-controlled study with press needles.
Electroacupuncture improves imbalance of autonomic function under restraint stress in conscious rats.
Acupuncture may modulate the imbalance of the autonomic nervous system. It is well known that restraint stress delays gastric emptying via inhibiting parasympathetic activity and/or stimulating
Changes in Blood Circulation of the Tendons and Heart Rate Variability During and After Acupuncture.
TLDR
The results suggest that changes in blood circulation of tendons after acupuncture treatment were controlled by the autonomic nervous system, which could not be detected by HRV analysis.
The Effects of Acupuncture Stimulation on Acupoints Related to Mind
TLDR
The HRV measurement showed that in the course of before, during and after acupuncture stimulation, heart rate, HF and HF norm decreased significantly (P0.05), whileHeart rate,HF and HFnorm decreased significantly, while P wave decreased significantly and P wave increased significantly.

Transient increase in human muscle sympathetic nerve activity during manual acupuncture.
TLDR
The results suggest that the coactivation of cardiac vagal and muscle sympathetic nerves is evoked by the acupuncture maneuver, with a negative correlation with heart rate in four out of five subjects who received acupuncture.
Different modes of manual acupuncture stimulation differentially modulate cerebral blood flow velocity , arterial blood pressure and heart rate in human subjects
TLDR
Data indicate that the mode of manual acupuncture stimulation has a differential effect on the perceived stimulation intensity, the cerebral activation and the cardiovascular reflex response.
