}Summary A randomised controlled trial was conducted to compare the clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness of Dinoprostone Slow Release Pessary (Propess) with Gel (Prostin) for induction of labour (IOL) at term. A total of 120 women requiring IOL at term with no previous uterine surgery and no contraindication to prostaglandins were included. The main outcome measures were efficacy of drug preparations, patient satisfaction and the cost-effectiveness. The secondary outcome measures noted were…

Dinoprostone insert showed a distinct superiority in terms of VD within 24 h and had an advantage of a shorter hospital stay and less postpartum hemorrhage in contrast to gel, yet the superior benefit of the vaginal insert compared to gel was still not difficult to observe.

The two induction procedures should be considered equivalent as far as ripening the cervix and initiating labor, since it reduces pain thereby improving the physical and emotional wellbeing of the parturient.
A prospective pilot study of Dilapan-S compared with Propess for induction of labour at 41+ weeks in nulliparous pregnancy
- MedicineIrish Journal of Medical Science (1971 -)
- 2017
Dilapan-S is an acceptable, safe form of induction of labour in post-dates uncomplicated nulliparous pregnancy and therefore, Dilapan- S may be a suitable option for outpatient induction of labourers in low-risk post- datesnulliparas, and no cases of hyperstimulation were found.
Comparison of Dinoprostone Vaginal Tablet and Vaginal Insert in Primigravid Women for Induction of Labor

Resource use should be considered when making decisions about labour induction methods, and the MVI is an effective method for labour induction, and could lead to a considerable reduction in resource use compared with the DVI, thereby alleviating the increasing burden of labour induction in UK hospitals.
