The genus Cymbidium (Orchidaceae) exhibits distinctive ecological diversification and occurs in terrestrial, epiphytic, and lithophytic life forms. One species, Cymbidium macrorhizon, lacks foliage leaves and has a strongly mycoparasitic existence. Correlation between habitat differentiation and anatomical characters was tested for 21 species of Cymbidium and its putative sister groups.
