The extracts from twigs of three Pteridophytes (locally available) viz. Selaginella ciliaris (Retz.), Marsilea minuta (L.) and Thelypteris prolifera (Retz.) were investigated for antitumor properties. Among the species, highest percentage of tumor inhibition was found in M. minuta (82.32%) followed by S. ciliaris (80%) and T. prolifera (75.68%) at 1000ppm, and significant tumor inhibition was observed at 10, 100 and 1000 ppm of plant extracts on potato disc induced by Agrobacterium tumefaciens…

Antitumor and antibacterial activity of a crude methanol leaf extract of Vitex negundo L.
TLDR
The presented findings indicate that the methanol leaf extract could be considered as a source of novel antitumor and antibacterial compounds.
A review of the use of pteridophytes for treating human ailments
TLDR
Many pteridophytes examined have properties that could be used in alternative medicine for treatment of various human illnesses, and taxa from the Pteridaceae, Polypodiaceae, and Adiantaceae exhibited significant medicinal activity.
Antitumor properties of two traditional aromatic rice genotypes (Kalijira and Chinigura)
TLDR
It can be concluded that aromatic rice (Kalijira and Chinigura) might be a potential source of antitumor agent that can be used for further drug development for tumor treatment.
Selection of a Suitable Disc Bioassay for the Screening of Anti-Tumor Molecules
TLDR
Overall results supported that beet bioassay might be a potential prescreen system of anti-tumor molecules in mammalian cells.
Assessment of tumor inducing potential of lead using crown gall tumor disc bioassay
TLDR
The present study indicates that lead acetate has a significant tumor inducing potential and crown gall tumor disc bioassay can be used as a potential and reliable tool for screening the tumor induce potential of various test agents.
ANIMAL SPARING BIOASSAY-AN EMERGING WAY TO INVESTIGATE ANTICANCER COMPOUNDS
TLDR
Some of the techniques for assaying anticancer/antitumor compounds which do not involves the use of animals are reviewed and summarized to find them as safe, reliable, accurate and reproducible.

In vitro evaluation of Croton bonplandianum Baill. as potential antitumor properties using Agrobacterium tumefaciens
TLDR
It is recommended that the bioactive compound of this plant may play an important role in developing antitumor drugs for human beings, as there is a similarity between human and plant tumor formation mechanism.
Cytotoxic and Antitumor Potential of Fagonia cretica L.
TLDR
The overall results indicate a strong anti-cancerous potential of this plant.
Biological activity of common mullein, a medicinal plant.
Biological Evaluation of Some Selected Plant Species of Pakistan
TLDR
Seven methanol extracts from five different plant species were evaluated for brine shrimp cytotoxicity, antitumor potato disc, and radish seed phytotoxicity activity and a positive correlation was observed in the results of three of the described assays.
[Advances in study on chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of plants of genus Pteris].
TLDR
Main problems and study directions in future of pteris were indicated and the latest progress on chemical constituents and pharmacological activity were reviewed.
ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF FICUS BENGHALENSIS
TLDR
Amongst all the extracts tested, methanolic extract was comparably more effective to inhibit the growth of microbes than Aqueous and Chloroform extracts.
Modification and evaluation of the potato disc assay and antitumor screening of euphorbiaceae seeds.
TLDR
The modified potato disc assay is a safe, simple, rapid, in-house, low cost, prescreen for 3PS antitumor activity; it detects some false positives, but few false negatives; it is statistically much more predictive of 3PS activity than either the 9KB or the 9PS cytotoxicity assays.
Crown Gall Tumor Disc Bioassay: A POSSIBLE AID IN THE DETECTION OF COMPOUNDS WITH ANTITUMOR ACTIVITY.
TLDR
There is definite correlation between the ability of purified compounds and various ethanol extracts from plant sources to inhibit the formation of crown gall tumors and their activity on the P388 leukemia system in mice.
The Use of Biological Assays to Evaluate Botanicals
TLDR
The Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology's laboratory has adopted four “bench top” bioassays which do not require higher animals to screen and direct the fractionation of botanical extracts in drug discovery efforts, and the results in applying these simple methods in the discovery of Annonaceous acetogenins will be presented.
Potato disc tumor induction assay: a multiple mode of drug action assay.
TLDR
The A. tumefaciens-induced potato disc tumor assay was an effective indicator of antitumor activity regardless of the mechanism of drug action, and would be acceptable as a primary general screen for antineoplastic activity of various crude extracts, as well as for purified fractions, regardless of mode of inhibitory action on tumor formation.
