The effects of the acridines euflavine and proflavine on mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication and mutation inSaccharomyces cerevisiae have been compared. In contrast to previous results we found that under our conditions proflavine can indeed induce high levels (>80%) of petite mutants, although six times less efficiently than euflavine.
