Comparative evaluation of internal and external qualities of eggs from quail and guinea fowl

title={Comparative evaluation of internal and external qualities of eggs from quail and guinea fowl},
  author={I. O. Dudusola},
The quality characteristics and proximate composition of the eggs of quail and guinea fowl were compared. The eggs of the two species had an oval conical shape with blunt and pointed ends. The shape indices of both the eggs had no statistical difference. As very well apparent, guinea fowl eggs (46.65g) were much heavy than the Quail eggs (10.34g). Proportion of yolk to total egg weight was higher in quail (31.4%) than guinea fowl (30.6%) Similarly, albumen content was higher in quail (61.2…

Effect of age of Japanese quail on physical and biochemical characteristics of eggs

From the consumers’ point of view, eggs from older birds appeared to be the most valuable, at the same time, as the quail ages, the antibacterial properties of eggs deteriorate, which may indicate a shorter shelf life.

Comparison of Egg Quality Characteristics of Different Poultry Species

Internal quality and functional quality traits from Sri Lankan village chicken eggs and Shaver brown eggs were decreased with the increasing storage period (3 weeks) at 10 oC and quail egg has the highest shape index and duck egg white has the high viscosity and foam stability.

Egg Productivity of Guinea ‐ Fowls ( Numida meleagris )

  • 2020
Guinea-fowl egg production has not been developed worldwide. The reason for that is not so much the lack of traditional egg-laying industry rather than the pursuit of higher meat yields of that fowl

The result of the mean external egg quality traits showed that the Pearl and Lavender varieties are similarly longer and wider than the Black variety, however, the Black variety however outperformed the Pearl variety in shell thickness.

Determination of Phenotypic Correlations Between Internal and External Quality Traits of Guinea Fowl Eggs

The results indicated that egg weight influences external egg quality traits of quinea fowl and the positive correlations obtained among the eggquality traits indicated that they can be improved phenotypically through selection.

Comparative Evaluation of Some Properties of Chicken and Japanese Quail Eggs Subjected to Different Storage Methods

Based on the various eggs storage quality indices evaluated on eggs stored under different conditions, quail eggs stored in oil were able to retain their  interior quality than  in other storage conditions, while chicken eggs storing in the refrigerator had better retention of quality than in otherstorage conditions at the end of the six-week storage period.

Analysis of Changes in Egg Quality of Autochthonous Chicken Breed Oravka during Laying Period

The results showed that as the laying cycle of hens progressed, the egg weight and egg shape index were increased and eggshell proportion and thickness were reduced, especially by the end of laying cycle.

Morphometric Parameters of whole egg and Egg Yolk of five Nigerian Domesticated Avian Species

The present study evaluated morphometric parameters among the five eggs from the selected domesticated avian species in Nigeria namely the domestic chicken, turkey, guinea fowl, Muscovy, Japanase quail and Guinea fowl.

Egg quality of Japanese quail in Serbia (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

The external and internal egg quality traits of quail eggs from three farms in Serbia do not differ from the results of quality traits from other countries.

Proximate and mineral composition of Japanese quail egg and its possible role in bone healing

Quail eggs are known to be highly nutritious. In the first study, the nutritional and mineral composition of quail eggs was evaluated by determining the proportion of moisture, total ash, lipids,

Storage Stability of Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) Eggs at Room Temperature

It was concluded from this study that shelf life of unrefrigerated quail eggs would not be greater than 14 days in summer and that washing of the eggs at farms should be avoided.

Influence of stocking density and layer age on production traits and egg quality in Japanese quail

Body weight gain, age at 50% egg production, mortality, hen‐day egg production and food conversion values showed significant improvement with proportionate increase in cage space per layer, and egg weight gradually increased with age.

The hen's egg: Relationships of seven characteristics of the strain of hen to the incidence of cracks and other shell defects

Breeders who wish to exercise indirect selection for low crack incidence should consider selecting for dark shell colour rather than high shell thickness.
