Protein extracts were prepared from six isolates of Candida albicans, three of C. stellatoidea, four of C. tropicalis, C. krusei and C. pseudotropicalis, and five of C. parapsilosis and C. guilliermondii. The 31 extracts were fractionated by disc electrophoresis using an anionic and a cationic system. Forty-six protein fractions were observed, including 27 different acidic fractions with the anionic system and 19 different basic fractions with the cationic system. Isolates of each species were… Expand

Comparative electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing and numerical taxonomy of some isolates of Fonsecaea pedrosoi and allied fungi.
TLDR
The proteins in broken-cell extracts from eight isolates of Fonsecaea pedrosoi, the principal agent of chromomycosis, were studied and compared by electrophoresis and isoelectric focusing, revealing a considerable similarity among the isolates studied. Expand
Preliminary characterization and grouping of Candida species by numerical analysis of protein profiles obtained by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
TLDR
The analysis of the phenogram allowed detection of the cophenetic correlation levels existing among these species. Expand
Preliminary characterization and grouping of Candida species by numerical analysis of protein profiles obtained by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
Whole-cell proteins from isolates of five Candida species (Candida albicans, Candida krusei, Candida parapsilosis, Candida tropicalis and Candida guilliermondii) were separated by SDS-PAGE and theExpand
TAXONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE OF INTRASPECIFIC ISOZYME PATTERNS OF THE SLIME MOLD FULIGO SEPTICA PRODUCED BY DISC ELECTROPHORESIS
TLDR
The extreme sensitivity of disc electrophoresis in detecting color forms suggests it can be useful as a tool in myxomycete taxonomy. Expand
Identification of Phytophthora Species by Disc Electrophoresis
TLDR
Soluble proteins from the mycelia of 30 isolates of Phytophthora cinnamomi, collected from 17 different hosts and from widely separated geographic locations, yielded 22 and 26 bands with different densities, indicating that the two species differed markedly and each exhibited its distinct, characteristic protein pattern by disc electrophoresis. Acid phosphatase levels in the genus Candida and their application to the taxonomy and identification of pathogenic Candida species.
Quantitative assays of intact cells of 7 pathogenic Candida species, Cryptococcus neoformans and Torulopsis glabrata revealed many differences and few similarities between these yeast pathogens withExpand
Protein and enzyme electrophoresis profiles of selected Candida species
The cellular protein profiles and malate dehydrogenases, superoxide dismutases, alkaline phosphatases, and esterases from whole cell extracts of Candida spp. were studied with polyacrylamide gelExpand
Differentiation of Yeast Species Based On Electrophoretic Whole-cell Protein-patterns
TLDR
The construction of a database of protein fingerprints is feasible and will be a useful tool for routine identification of yeasts. Expand
Taxonomic significance of enzyme polymorphism among isolates of Pleurotus (Basidiomycetes) from umbellifers
Mycelial extracts of 24 ‘wild’ dikaryotic isolates representing the three types of Pleurotus growing on umbellifers, selected from different geographical areas, were subjected to acrylamide diskExpand
POLYACRYLAMIDE GEL ELECTROPHORESIS AND NUMERICAL TAXONOMY OF TAPHRINA CAERULESCENS AND TAPHRINA DEFORMANS
TLDR
It appears that polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) can be used to detect similarities between species, but other characteristics likely should be employed along with electrophoretic data before a strong species concept, incorporating biochemical studies, is proposed for Taphrina. Expand

Comparative disc electrophoretic studies of proteins from dermatophytes.
TLDR
Human isolates of Microsporum gypseum, M. canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. tonsurans, and Epidermophyton floccosum were cultured in Sabouraud's medium and Kuehn'smedium and characteristic electrophoretic patterns with 8 to 15 distinct protein fractions were obtained from each preparation. Disc electrophoretic studies of intraspecific variability of proteins from dermatophytes.
TLDR
Four different human isolates of Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, T. tonsurans and Epidermophyton floccosum were cultured for 14 days in Sabouraud's medium at room temperature and the qualitative electrophoretic patterns of these species are relatively stable taxonomic characteristics. Deoxyribonucleic Acid Base Composition of Some Species within the Genus Candida
SUMMARY: The base composition of purified DNA from 18 species of the genus Candida was determined from the denaturation temperature, Tm. A great genetic heterogeneity was found with a mean molarExpand
Disc electrophoretic studies of proteins from Coccidioides immitis.
The proteins of Coccidioides immitis have attracted little attention and most studies have been concerned with the polysaccharides of this fungus. Proteins and peptides, however, have been identifiedExpand

DISC ELECTROPHORESIS IN POLYACRYLAMIDE GELS: EXTENSION TO NEW CONDITIONS OF pH AND BUFFER
TLDR
The purpose of this paper is to present a strategy that is useful in extending disc electrophoresis to new conditions of pH and constituent with considerably greater convenience than by using the rather complex calculations from the theory presented by Ornstein. Expand
