The aim of this work was to analyse the material behaviour of thermally modified and native spruce by load applied perpendicularly to the grain. Therefore, thermally modified and native samples were prepared for bending tests with the load in tangential direction. The bending strength in radial direction decreases significantly with the thermal treatment.
