ABSTRACT Most species descriptions of harvestmen from Central America that belong to the suborder Eupnoi are based on characters such as total body length, relative size of leg segments, coloration of the body and legs, and armature of the eye mound and dorsal scutum. Characters based on reproductive morphology and microanatomical structures are generally absent from most taxonomic works. Not surprisingly, the taxonomy of these harvestmen from this region requires extensive revision. In an… Expand
Ontogenetic variation in the sensory structures on the pedipalps of cosmetid harvestmen (Arachnida, Opiliones, Laniatores)
TLDR
Using scanning electron microscopy to examine the distribution of cuticular structures on the elements of the pedipalps of adults and nymphs of three species of cosmetid harvestmen indicates that there is considerable ontogenetic variation in the morphology of the trochanter, femur, patella, tibia, and tarsus. Expand
Evolution of a sensory cluster on the legs of Opiliones (Arachnida) informs multi-level phylogenetic relationships
TLDR
This paper presents a meta-modelling study of the response of the immune system to changes in the environment through the course of repeated exposure to Lamarckian evolution. Expand
El género Krusa (Opiliones: Sclerosomatidae: Gagrellinae) en México
TLDR
The revision leads us to resurrect the genus Krusella Roewer, 1953 from Venezuela, which currently includes 6 species endemic to Mexico, and a dichotomous key for the identification of species of Krusa. Expand
Changes in nymphal morphometric values and tarsal microstructures during postembryonic development in the Neotropical harvestman Heteromitobates albiscriptus (Opiliones: Gonyleptidae)
TLDR
There is no discernible pattern of growth throughout the postembryonic development of Heteromitobates albiscriptus when taking into account both the average size of the plates and the ratio of TPO length to tarsus length. Expand
External Morphology of Pyza taurica Gruber, 1979 (Arachnida: Opiliones)

Re-description of Togwoteeus biceps (Arachnida, Opiliones, Sclerosomatidae) with notes on its morphology, karyology and phenology.
TLDR
This study sought to determine if observed morphological variations were linked to the existence of unrecognized new species of harvestman in North America, and documented morphological, chromosomal, and phenologica l information. Expand
Harvestmen (Arachnida: Opiliones) of Trinidad, West Indies
TLDR
A taxonomic key for identification of the 10 families of harvestmen known from Trinidad was developed through the modification of published keys in conjunction with characters that were observed for these taxa. Expand
A NEW SPECIES OF HARVESTMAN FROM ARIZONA (ARACHNIDA: OPILIONES: PALPATORES: DALQUESTIA)
Dalquestia rothorum, new species, from Mt. Graham, Graham County, Arizona, is described. A taxonomical key to the species of Dalquestia is provided. The harvestman genus Dalquestia was recentlyExpand
Molecular systematics of sclerosomatid harvestmen (Opiliones, Phalangioidea, Sclerosomatidae): geography is better than taxonomy in predicting phylogeny.
TLDR
Phylogenetic affinities between biotas of the New World and Asian tropics, as well as between temperate North American and East Asia, suggest that sclerosomatid historical biogeography may conform with the Boreotropic Concept. Expand
Molecular phylogeny of the leiobunine harvestmen of eastern North America (Opiliones: Sclerosomatidae: Leiobuninae).
TLDR
DNA sequences from representatives of each genus, virtually all Leiobunum species from the USA and Canada, four western North American outgroup species and the distantly related Phalangium opilio were obtained to reconstruct phylogeny and test taxonomy-based phylogenetic hypotheses. Expand
External Morphology of the Male Harvestman Phalangium opilio (Arachnida: Opiliones)
TLDR
Cuticular setae, hairs, and denticles on the segments of legs, pedipalpus, and chelicerae of P. opilio are described and some of these structures will probably prove to be of diagnostic value for P. Opilio. Expand
MORPHOLOGY OF THE DORSAL INTEGUMENT O F TEN OPILIONID SPECIES (ARACHNIDA, OPILIONES )
TLDR
Variations in the generalized tuberculate-granulat e morphology were observed in eight of the ten species studied, and comparisons presented provide a terminology for describing opilionid cuticular features. Expand
Comparative study of the defensive behavior and morphology of the gland opening area among harvestmen (Arachnida, Opiliones, Gonyleptidae) under a phylogenetic perspective.
TLDR
This paper analyzed 33 species of harvestmen (mostly from the largest harvestmen family, the Gonyleptidae) aiming at recognizing the usefulness of the defensive characters in taxonomy and evolutionary biology. Expand
An ethological approach to a SEM survey on sensory structures and tegumental gland openings of two neotropical harvestmen (Arachnida, Opiliones, Gonyleptidae)
TLDR
This work describes five new tegumental glands, one sexually dimorphic in the metatarsus IV of I. pustulosa males and two that are rubbed against the substrate while walking, present in both species, the first morphological evidence that harvestmen might leave chemical marks on the substrate.
