DR-Congo is a main world producer of copper (Cu) and cobalt (Co). Several hydrometallurgical plants and smelters also produced zinc, arsenic, and cadmium as by-products. In Sudbury (Canada), the production of nickel, copper and other metals has been maintained at high levels while industrial SO2 emissions have been reduced by approximately 90% through combination of industrial technological developments and legislated controls. Metal analysis in the present study revealed that the levels of…

High level of nickel tolerance and metal exclusion identified in silver maple (Acer saccharinum)
ABSTRACT Nickel (Ni) and copper (Cu) are the most prevalent metals found in the Greater Sudbury Region ecosystems. The main objectives of this study are to (1) assess silver maple (Acer saccharinum)

Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination of Soils and Plants in and around Open Cast Mines of Sukinda, India
Mining activities generate huge amount of wastes with extremely high concentrations of heavy metal that have adverse effects on ecosystems and human health. Metal contamination extended several
MOBILITÉ ET BIODISPONIBILITÉ DU CUIVRE ET DU COBALT DANS LES ÉCOSYSTÈMES MÉTALLIFÈRES DE L’ARC CUPRIFÈRE DU KATANGA
Numerous metalliferous rocks outcrop in Southern-Central Africa. The Katanga province in RDCongo is rich in ore resources, among which copper, cobalt, nickel, lead or zinc. The copper hills have been
Reactivity of fly ash from copper smelters in an Oxisol: implications for smelter-polluted soil systems in the tropics
PurposeSoils near non-ferrous metal smelters are often highly polluted by metal(loid)s. Compared to temperate soils, tropical soils are particularly affected by this type of contamination, because

TLDR
The levels of these elements in black spruce tissues were much lower and far below the toxic levels for vegetation, which is the first documented report of metal content inblack spruce populations in the Sudbury region.
