This study evaluates the hypolipidemic activities of lyophilized commercial Noni juice (NJ) in animal models of dyslipidemia and determine if this property is exhibited by the lyophilized fruit juice of locally harvested Morinda citrifolia Linn. (FJ). Triton and atherogenic diet-fed dyslipidemic rats were assessed by serum lipid profiles. With FJ treatment, the serum total cholesterol (TC) lowering effect between tritonized and diet-fed rats was comparable; with NJ treatment, however, a much…

Lipid-lowering property of Clausena anisum-olens in hypercholesterolemic rats
The crude extract of C. anisum-olens proved to be useful in lowering of cholesterol and was comparable to Atorvastatin.

Studies on antidyslipidemic effects of Morinda citrifolia (Noni) fruit, leaves and root extracts
Data indicate that the antidyslipidemic effect of the plant extracts was meditated through the inhibition of biosynthesis, absorption and secretion of lipids, which may be possibly due partly to the presence of antioxidant constituents in this plant.
Hypolipidemic effect of Coriandrum sativum L. in triton-induced hyperlipidemic rats.
C. sativum at a dose of 1g/kg body weight reduced cholesterol and triglycerides levels in both synthesis and excretory phases in rats, and the results were comparable with that of Liponil, a commercially available herbal hypolipidemic drug.
From Polynesian Healers to Health Food Stores: Changing Perspectives of Morinda citrifolia(Rubiaceae)
While noni’s anticancer potential is still being explored, it continues to be widely used by Polynesians and non-Polynesians alike for both traditional and newly hypothesized indications.
Upregulation of Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor by Gemfibrozil, a Hypolipidemic Agent, in Human Hepatoma Cells Through Stabilization of mRNA Transcripts
Gemfibrozil reduces the plasmal levels of cholesterol and triglyceride in patients with hyperlipidemia by a mechanism that is not well understood and increased the levels of LDL receptor mRNA and protein in HepG2 cells.
Comparison of a homogeneous assay with a precipitation method for the measurement of HDL cholesterol in diabetic patients.
Direct homogeneous assay for HDL cholesterol determination in diabetic patients seems not to exhibit a negative bias, in contrast to the precipitation method, when compared with the ultracentrifugation method, and is not influenced by type of diabetes or degree of metabolic control.
High density lipoprotein cholesterol: an evolving target of therapy in the management of cardiovascular disease
A detailed update on HDL-C as an evolving therapeutic target in the management of cardiovascular disease and attempts to harness HDL’s ability to enhance RCT are provided.
An o-toluidine method for body-fluid glucose determination.
o-Toluidine, 6% (v/v) in glacial acetic acid, is used to determine glucose in biologic material after deproteinization with 3% trichloracetic acid and follows Beer's Law over a very wide range of concentrations.
Clinical Laboratory Methods
Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Inhibits Hepatic Gluconeogenesis via Increased Phosphorylation of Forkhead Transcription Factor (FoxO1)
The data suggests that noni juice (NJ) can offer an economical alternative, specifically for culturally sensitive diabetic individuals or those who cannot afford conventional medicine.
