Recently a paper of Klimovskikh et al. was published presenting experimental and theoretical analysis of the graphene/Pb/Pt(111) system. The authors investigate the crystallographic and electronic structure of this graphene-based system by means of LEED, ARPES, and spin-resolved PES of the graphene $\pi$ states in the vicinity of the Dirac point of graphene. The authors of this paper demonstrate that an energy gap of approx. 200 meV is opened in the spectral function of graphene directly at the…

Realistic Large‐Scale Modeling of Rashba and Induced Spin–Orbit Effects in Graphene/High‐Z‐Metal Systems

Graphene, as a material with a small intrinsic spin–orbit interaction of approximately 1 µeV, has a limited application in spintronics. Adsorption of graphene on the surfaces of heavy metals was

Spin-Orbit Coupling Induced Gap in Graphene on Pt(111) with Intercalated Pb Monolayer.

The effect of the spin-orbit interaction enhancement in graphene placed in contact with a lead monolayer is studied and the measured near-gap spin structure resembles that of the quantum spin Hall state in graphene.

Structural and electronic properties of the graphene/Al/Ni(111) intercalation system

Decoupling of the graphene layer from the ferromagnetic substrate via intercalation of sp metal has recently been proposed as an effective way to realize a single-layer graphene-based spin-filter.

Characterization of Symmetry Properties of Pt(111) Electron Bands by Means of Angle-, Energy-, and Spin-Resolved Photoemission with Circularly Polarized Synchrotron Radiation

An angle-, energy-, and spin-resolved photoemission experiment has been performed for Pt(111) with the circularly polarized synchrotron radiation of the new German dedicated storage ring BESSY. The

Photoelectron spin-polarization spectroscopy: A new method in adsorbate physics

Energy-, angle-, and spin-resolved photoemission results from adsorbates are discussed. The measurements employed circularly polarized synchrotron radiation from BESSY, a special photoelectron

Local Electronic and Magnetic Structure of Ni below and above TC: A Spin-Resolved Circularly Polarized Resonant Photoemission Study

We report the measurement of the local Ni 3d spin polarization, not only below but also above the Curie temperature (T-C), using the newly developed spin-resolved circularly polarized 2p (L-3)

Spin-Polarized Photoemission Spectroscopy of Magnetic Surfaces Using Undulator Radiation

A beamline has been established at the National Synchrotron Light Source to perform angle‐resolved photoemission experiments on magnetic surfaces with spin sensitivity. The system has two novel
