The chance discovery of the first interstellar minor body, 1I/2017 U1 (‘Oumuamua), indicates that we may have been visited by such objects in the past and that these events may repeat in the future. Unfortunately, minor bodies following nearly parabolic or hyperbolic paths tend to receive little attention: over 3/4 of those known have data-arcs shorter than 30 d and, consistently, rather uncertain orbit determinations. This fact suggests that we may have observed interstellar interlopers in…

Visible and near-infrared observations of interstellar comet 2I/Borisov with the 10.4-m GTC and the 3.6-m TNG telescopes
In this work, we present the results of an observational study of 2I/Borisov carried out with the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC) and the 3.6-m Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG), both
Activity of the Jupiter co-orbital comet P/2019 LD2 (ATLAS) observed with OSIRIS at the 10.4 m GTC
Context. The existence of comets with heliocentric orbital periods close to that of Jupiter (i.e., co-orbitals) has been known for some time. Comet 295P/LINEAR (2002 AR2) is a well-known

Dynamical evolution of C/2017 K2 PANSTARRS
Context. The comet C/2017 K2 PANSTARRS drew attention to its activity at the time of its discovery in May 2017 when it was about 16 au from the Sun. This Oort spike comet will approach its perihelion
The origin of interstellar asteroidal objects like 1I/2017 U1
With the recently discovered interstellar object 1I/2017U1 (1I/'Oumuamua) we have to realize that the Solar System is not isolated, but part of a larger environment with which we interact. We compare
Pre-discovery Observations and Orbit of Comet C/2017 K2 (PANSTARRS)
We present a study of comet C/2017 K2 (PANSTARRS) using pre-discovery archival data taken from 2013 to 2017. Our measurements show that the comet has been marginally increasing in activity since at
Spin Evolution and Cometary Interpretation of the Interstellar Minor Object 1I/2017 ’Oumuamua
Observations of the first interstellar minor object 1I/2017 'Oumuamua did not reveal direct signs of outgassing that would have been natural if it had volatile-rich composition. However, a recent
Comet C/2017 K2 (PANSTARRS): Dynamically Old or New?
At discovery time, C/2017 K2 (PANSTARRS) was the second most distant inbound active comet ever observed. It has been argued that this object is in the process of crossing the inner Solar System for
Spectroscopic and dynamical properties of comet C/2018 F4, likely a true average former member of the Oort cloud
Context. The population of comets hosted by the Oort cloud is heterogeneous. Most studies in this area have focused on highly active objects, those with small perihelion distances or examples of
Interstellar Interlopers: Number Density and Origin of ‘Oumuamua-like Objects
We provide a calculation of Pan-STARRS' ability to detect objects similar to the interstellar object 1I/2017 U1 (hereafter 'Oumuamua), including the most detectable approach vectors and the effect of
Non-gravitational acceleration in the trajectory of 1I/2017 U1 (‘Oumuamua)
‘Oumuamua—the first known interstellar object to have entered the Solar System—is probably a comet, albeit with unusual dust and chemical properties owing to its origin in a distant solar system.
1I/`Oumuamua As Debris of Dwarf Interstellar Comet That Disintegrated Before Perihelion
Intrinsically faint comets in nearly-parabolic orbits with perihelion distances much smaller than 1 AU exhibit strong propensity for suddenly disintegrating at a time not long before perihelion, as
Was Comet C/1945 X1 (du Toit) a Dwarf, SOHO-Like Kreutz Sungrazer?
The goal of this investigation is to reinterpret and upgrade the astrometric and other data on comet C/1945 X1, the least prominent among the Kreutz system sungrazers discovered from the ground in
