Although numerous studies have been performed using transcranial electrical stimulation (tES), our understanding of tES-induced effects on neural activity remains limited, especially regarding the effects on neural networks. The use of an approach, such as electroencephalography (EEG) in combination with tES, could allow for a more detailed understanding of the neural mechanisms involved in these observed changes. Co-registration of tES and EEG might provide high temporal resolution information…
The Effects of Transcranial Electrical Stimulation on Human Motor Functions: A Comprehensive Review of Functional Neuroimaging Studies
TLDR
It is concluded that neuroimaging techniques are feasible to be coupled with tES and offer valuable information of cortical excitability, connectivity, and oscillations regarding the effects of tES on human motor behavior.
Multimodal Association of tDCS with Electroencephalography
TLDR
It is shown that EEG is a feasible and reliable way to track electrophysiological changes induced by tES, deepening the understanding of the mechanisms of action of this tool and revealing the key role of several stimulation features.
13 Transcranial Magnetic and Electric Stimulation in Perception and Cognition Research
TLDR
The development of non-invasive brain stimulation techniques to study perception and cognition constitutes a significant breakthrough in understanding of the changes in the brain that may account for behavioral plasticity.

Novel bifunctional cap for simultaneous electroencephalography and transcranial electrical stimulation
TLDR
A novel bifunctional cap is designed for simultaneous TES–EEG applications in clinical research, therapy monitoring and closed-loop stimulation and finds a significant reduction of the P100 component only during TES, indicating a different brain modulation effect during and after TES.
Orchestrating neuronal networks: sustained after-effects of transcranial alternating current stimulation depend upon brain states
TLDR
Long lasting after-effects foster the role of tACS as a tool for non-invasive brain stimulation and demonstrate the potential for therapeutic application to reestablish the balance of altered brain oscillations.

TLDR
This review discusses the wide range of possible TMS-EEG applications and what new information may be gained using this technique on the dynamics of brain functions, hierarchical organization, and cortical connectivity, as well as on TMS action per se.

Weak transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with a homogenous DC field at intensities of around 1 mA induces long-lasting changes in the brain. tDCS can be used to manipulate brain
Transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation Enhances Individual Alpha Activity in Human EEG
TLDR
The present findings are the first direct electrophysiological evidence of an interaction of tACS and ongoing oscillatory activity in the human cortex and show its potential both at fostering knowledge on the functional significance of brain oscillations and for therapeutic application.
Oscillatory brain activity and transcranial direct current stimulation in humans
TLDR
It is shown here that tDCS transiently and reversibly changed the organized cortical activity elicited by visual stimulation, which might be a suitable method to affect higher order cognitive processes.
