We sought to determine the hepatic fibrosis-reversal effects upon simultaneous administration of lithospermate B (LAB), an anti-oxidant, and nivocasan, a caspase inhibitor, to rats compared with each compound alone. Liver fibrosis was induced in Sprague–Dawley rats by thioacetamide (TAA). Rats were treated with TAA and then given LAB and (or) nivocasan. Fibrotic areas were evaluated quantitatively by computerized morphometry. Apoptosis was assessed using a TUNEL assay, and immunohistochemical…
Attenuates Experimental Rat Hepatic Fibrosis by Suppressing Angiotensin II – Angiotensin Type 1 Receptor – ERK Signaling
TLDR
Swertiamarin (Swe), an ethanol extract of Gentiana manshurica Kitag, may attenuate hepatic fibrosis through inhibiting HSC activation by regulating the RAS.
Fugan Wan alleviates hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting ACE/Ang II/AT-1R signaling pathway and enhancing ACE2/Ang 1-7/Mas signaling pathway in hepatic fibrosis rat models.
TLDR
FGW alleviated hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting ACE/Ang II/AT-1R signaling and enhancing ACE2/Ang 1-7/Mas signaling pathway in hepatic Fibrosis rat models.
Swertiamarin Attenuates Experimental Rat Hepatic Fibrosis by Suppressing Angiotensin II–Angiotensin Type 1 Receptor–Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase Signaling
TLDR
The results showed that Swe significantly inhibited Ang II-induced HSC proliferation and activation and significantly suppressed DMN-induced α-smooth muscle actin production in rat livers and improved liver function, suggesting Swe may attenuate hepatic fibrosis through inhibiting HSC activation by regulating the RAS.
Proline supplementation mitigates the early stage of liver injury in bile duct ligated rats
TLDR
It was found that proline supplementation attenuated BDL-induced alteration in serum biomarkers of liver injury, mitigated liver histopathological changes, and alleviated markers of oxidative stress at the early stage of BDL operation.
Carnosine ameliorates liver fibrosis and hyperammonemia in cirrhotic rats.
Hepatoprotective and Anti-fibrotic Agents: It's Time to Take the Next Step
TLDR
This review provides a synopsis on anti-fibrotic compounds that were tested in classical rodent models and attempts to provide a reference compilation for all those involved in the testing of drugs or in the design of new clinical trials targeting hepatic fibrosis.
TNF-α suppression by glutathione preconditioning attenuates hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury in young and aged rats
TLDR
The findings revealed that I/R inflicted more liver damage in aged rats than young rats, and GSH pre-conditioning may be utilized in both young and aged individuals during liver transplantation/surgery for better post-operative outcomes.
Circulating exosomal microRNAs reveal the mechanism of Fructus Meliae Toosendan-induced liver injury in mice
The toxicological mechanisms of liver injury caused by most traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) remain largely unknown. Due to the unique features, exosomal microRNAs (miRNAs) are currently attracting

Results show that Sm exerted antifibrotic effects in both HSC-T6 cells and in rats with DMN-induced fibrosis, and levels of plasma aspartate transaminase activities were reduced by Sm and silymarin treatment.
Antifibrotic effects of magnesium lithospermate B on hepatic stellate cells and thioacetamide-induced cirrhotic rats
TLDR
It is concluded that MLB has potent antifibrotic effect in TAA-treated cirrhotic rats, and inhibits fibrogenic responses in HSCs, and suggests that MLB have potential as a novel therapy for hepatic fibrosis.

TLDR
HSC activation as assessed by α-smooth muscle actin mRNA expression and immunohistochemistry was markedly reduced in both 3- and 10-day BDL animals, suggesting the pan-caspase inhibitor IDN-6556 is a promising agent for cholestatic liver injury.
A natural process of cirrhosis resolution and deceleration of liver regeneration after thioacetamide withdrawal in a rat model
TLDR
In conclusion, upon TAA withdrawal hepatic cirrhosis was continuously resolved, but persisted up to 120 days, and liver regeneration was significantly decelerated.
