Efficient Virtual Machine (VM) provisioning and allocation allows the cloud providers to effectively utilize their available resources and obtain higher profits. As supported by the economic theory, combinatorial auction-based mechanisms are more efficient than fixed price-based mechanisms for problems similar to the VM allocation problem in clouds.
