Abstract An ndt technique has been developed in which the hardness of high frequency hardened bandsaw blades can be determined using a non-destructive colorimetric method. The novel concept is based upon the linear relationship existing between the variation in coloured bands produced by thermal induction and the corresponding DPN hardness. It is suggested that this technique can be applied to all HF treated steel plates.
