We review the rich phenomena associated with neutrino flavor transformation in the presence of neutrino self-coupling. Our exposition centers on three collective neutrino oscillation scenarios: (a) a simple bipolar neutrino system that initially consists of monoenergetic νe and , (b) a homogeneous and isotropic neutrino gas with multiple neutrino/antineutrino species and continuous energy spectra, and (c) a generic neutrino gas in an anisotropic environment. We use each of these scenarios to… Expand
Collective oscillations in supernova neutrinos: onset and beyond
Neutrino-neutrino interactions in dense neutrino streams, like those emitted by a core-collapse supernova, lead to self-induced neutrino flavor conversions. While this is a nonlinear phenomenon, weExpand
Collective neutrino oscillations and spontaneous symmetry breaking
Neutrino oscillations in a hot and dense astrophysical environment such as a core-collapse supernova pose a challenging, seven-dimensional flavor transport problem. To make the problem even moreExpand
Collective neutrino flavor conversion: Recent developments
Abstract Neutrino flavor evolution in core-collapse supernovae, neutron-star mergers, or the early universe is dominated by neutrino–neutrino refraction, often spawning “self-induced flavorExpand
Physics of neutrino flavor transformation through matter–neutrino resonances
Abstract In astrophysical environments such as core-collapse supernovae and neutron star–neutron star or neutron star–black hole mergers where dense neutrino media are present, matter–neutrinoExpand
Collective Neutrino Oscillations and Nucleosynthesis
The emergent phenomenon of collective neutrino oscillations arises from neutrino-neutrino interactions in environments with very large number of neutrinos. Since such environments are likely sites ofExpand

Another look at synchronized neutrino oscillations
Abstract In dense neutrino backgrounds present in supernovae and in the early Universe neutrino oscillations may exhibit complex collective phenomena, such as synchronized oscillations, bipolarExpand
Neutrino spin oscillations in polarized matter
We study the neutrino spin oscillations, i.e. neutrino spin precession, caused by the neutrino interaction with matter polarized by external magnetic field (or, equivalently, by the interaction ofExpand
Dynamical Phase Transitions in models of Collective Neutrino Oscillations
Collective neutrino oscillations can potentially play an important role in transporting lepton flavor in astrophysical scenarios where the neutrino density is large, typical examples are the earlyExpand

We study the effect of non-standard neutrino interactions (NSIs) on the growth of instabilities in neutrino energy spectra of a core-collapse supernova for different neutrino intensities and/or typesExpand

It is shown that neutrino-neutrino interactions maintain coherence in one system for which [ital a] priori one expected decoherence is expected. Expand
Neutrino oscillations in the early Universe with an inverted neutrino-mass hierarchy
Abstract Nuclear simulations of neutrino oscillations in the early Universe are performed for a neutrino-mass hierarchy with the vacuum mass of the second neutrino exceeding that of the first. ThisExpand
Collective neutrino oscillations in matter and CP violation
We explore CP violation effects on the neutrino propagation in dense environments, such as in core-collapse supernovae, where the neutrino self-interaction induces nonlinear evolution equations. WeExpand
Nonstandard neutrino-neutrino refractive effects in dense neutrino gases
We investigate the effects of nonstandard four-fermion neutrino-neutrino interactions on the flavor evolution of dense neutrino gases. We find that in the regions where the neutrino-neutrinoExpand
Dynamical collective calculation of supernova neutrino signals.
TLDR
A specific signature is found for the inverted hierarchy and a large third neutrino mixing angle and a dearth of lower energy positrons in Cherenkov detectors midway through the neutrinos signal and the simultaneous revelation of valuable information about the original fluxes is predicted. Expand
Coherent development of neutrino flavor in the supernova environment.
TLDR
It is found that in the normal (inverted) mass hierarchy the more tangentially-propagating neutrinos and antineutrinos can initiate collective, simultaneous medium-enhanced flavor conversion of these particles across broad ranges of energy and propagation direction. Expand
Symmetries in collective neutrino oscillations
We discuss the relationship between a symmetry in the neutrino flavour evolution equations and neutrino flavour oscillations in the collective precession mode. This collective precession mode canExpand

These bimodal solutions provide new insight into dense neutrino gases and into neutrini oscillations in the early Universe, thereby allowing one to surmise the flavor behavior of neutrinos with a nonzero chemical potential. Expand
Flavor oscillations in the supernova hot bubble region: nonlinear effects of neutrino background.
TLDR
Contrary to previous studies, it is found that in the neutrino-driven wind the electron fraction Y(e) always stays below 0.5, corresponding to a neutron-rich environment as required by r-process nucleosynthesis. Expand
Self-induced parametric resonance in collective neutrino oscillations
We identify a generic new form of collective flavor oscillations in dense neutrino gases that amounts to a self-induced parametric resonance. It occurs in a homogeneous and isotropic ensemble when aExpand
