In our paper we describe our pedagogical and technological approach to the design of learning activities that can be conducted outside the classroom during excursions by using PDAs. We realized our ideas by developing a role-play applied in the collaborative and mobile learning platform Collage, which was developed in the framework of an EU project. The game-like scenario enriched the field experience during an outdoor excursion in the archaeological site of Carnuntum.
