We analyze theoretically the electron tunneling induced by an ultrashort pulse of electric field between two metallic reservoirs coupled through a double quantum dot. We solve the equations of motion for the reduced density matrix to determine the transferred charge, which is a functional of the external field. Then, we use genetic algorithms to determine the optimal shape of the electric field that maximizes the transferred charge.
