A chain of interacting particles subject also to a nonlinear on-site potential admits stable soliton-like configurations : static kinks. The linear normal-modes around such a kink contain a discrete set of localized, gap-separated modes. Quantization of the Hamiltonian in these modes results in an interacting system of phonons. We investigate numerically the coherence properties of such localized modes at low temperatures using a non-Markovian master equation. We show that low decoherence rates…

Solitons and Instantons: An Introduction to Solitons and Instantons in Quantum Field Theory

R Rajaraman 1982 Amsterdam: North-Holland vii + 409 pp Dfl195 In recent years the roles of nontrivial solutions of Euler-Lagrange equations in statistical mechanics and quantum field theory have been

Entanglement of solitons in the Frenkel-Kontorova model

We investigate entanglement of solitons in the continuum-limit of the nonlinear Frenkel-Kontorova chain. We find that the entanglement of solitons manifests particle-like behavior as they are

Statistical treatment of open systems by generalized master equations

This paper deals with the dynamics of open systems moving irreversibly under the influence of their surroundings (B), and uses a complete microscopic description of the composite system S⊕B as a basis for the discussion of an open system S.

Cold trapped ions as quantum information processors

In this tutorial we review the physical implementation of quantum computing using a system of cold trapped ions. We discuss systematically all the aspects for making the implementation possible.

QLib - A Matlab Package for Quantum Information Theory Calculations with Applications

Developing intuition about quantum information theory problems is difficult, as is verifying or ruling-out of hypothesis. We present a Matlab package intended to provide the QIT community with a new

Quantum Computation with Hot and Cold Ions: An Assessment of Proposed Schemes

We present a brief critical review of the proposals for quantum computation with trapped ions, with particular emphasis on the schemes for quantum computation which relax the stringent requirements
