We measure the coherent nonlinear response of excitons in a single layer of molybdenum disulfide embedded in hexagonal boron nitride, forming a h-BN/MoS2/h-BN heterostructure. Using four-wave mixing microscopy and imaging, we correlate the exciton inhomogeneous broadening with the homogeneous one and population lifetime. We find that the exciton dynamics is governed by microscopic disorder on top of the ideal crystal properties. Analyzing the exciton ultrafast density dynamics using amplitude… Expand

Intrinsic lifetime of higher excitonic states in tungsten diselenide monolayers.
Surprisingly, despite the increased number of scattering channels, the linewidth of higher exciton states is similar or even smaller compared to the ground state, and microscopic calculations ascribe this behavior to a reduced exciton-phonon scattering efficiency for higher excites due to spatially extended orbital functions. Exposing the trion's fine structure by controlling the carrier concentration in hBN-encapsulated MoS2.
It is demonstrated that carrier concentration in MoS2 monolayers, arising from charge transfer from impurities in the substrate, can be significantly tuned within one order of magnitude by the modification of the bottom hBN flake thickness. Expand
