Dianthus superbus (D. superbus) is a traditional crude drug used for the treatment of urethritis, carbuncles and carcinomas. The objective of this study was to confirm the cognitive enhancing effect of D. superbus in memory impairment induced mice and to elucidate the possible potential mechanism. Effect of D. superbus on scopolamine induced memory impairment on mice was evaluated using the Morris water maze and passive avoidance tests. We also investigated acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity… Expand
Liquiritigenin ameliorates memory and cognitive impairment through cholinergic and BDNF pathways in the mouse hippocampus
TLDR
The results indicate that LQ may be useful for the treatment of learning and memory impairments, and that the beneficial effects of LQ are mediated, in part, by cholinergic and BDNF/ERK/CREB signaling enhancement and/or protection. Expand
Cognitive enhancing and antioxidant effects of tetrahydroxystilbene glucoside in Aβ1-42-induced neurodegeneration in mice.
TLDR
It was found that tetrahydroxystilbene glucoside attenuated Aβ1-42-induced memory impairment, however, the locomotor and exploratory activity of the mice were not affected, and it was demonstrated that tetrahydroxystileside as a natural drug might provide potential treatment for AD. Expand
Organosulfur compound protects against memory decline induced by scopolamine through modulation of oxidative stress and Na+/K+ ATPase activity in mice
TLDR
Results showed that BMMS pretreatment protected against the reduction in alternation and latency time induced by scopolamine in the Y-maze test and step-down inhibitory avoidance, respectively, and antioxidant effect and protection on the Na+/K+ ATPase activity are involved in the effect of compound against memory impairment in AD model induced byScopolamine. Combination of Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma Alleviates Learning and Memory Impairment in Scopolamine-Treated Mice by Regulating Synaptic-Related Proteins
Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata (ZhiHeShouWu, PMRP) and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (ShiChangPu, ATR) and their traditional combination (PA) are frequently used in traditional Chinese medicine toExpand
Therapeutic potential of selanyl amide derivatives in the in vitro anticholinesterase activity and in in vivo anti-amnesic action.
TLDR
Compound 1, a selanyl amide derivative containing a furan ring, demonstrated anti-amnesic action due to its antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities in cerebral structures, and protected against increasing in lipid peroxidation levels and AChE activity caused by SCO in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus of mice. Expand
Studies of the Anti-amnesic Effects and Mechanisms of Single and Combined Use of Donepezil and Ginkgo Ketoester Tablet on Scopolamine-Induced Memory Impairment in Mice
TLDR
The combination of drugs could treat AD perfectly and further verify the scientific rationality of clinical medication, as well as elucidate the binding mechanism of GT active ingredients into the structure of AChE. Expand
Amnesia-ameliorative effect of a quinoline derivative through regulation of oxidative/cholinergic systems and Na+/K+-ATPase activity in mice
TLDR
QTCA-1 had anti-amnesic action in the experimental model used in the present study, through the anticholinesterase effect, modulation of Na+/K+-ATPase activity and antioxidant action. Expand
EFFECT OF 4-AMINOPYRIDINE DERIVATIVES WITH A PEPTIDE MOIETY ON SCOPOLAMINE-INDUCED MEMORY IMPAIRMENT IN MICE
Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia and neurodegenerative diseases, is characterized by progressive memory impairment [1] and other progressive disturbances of corticalExpand

Scopolamine effects on memory retention in mice: a model of dementia?
TLDR
The overall results indicate that pretraining administration of scopolamine impairs learning and to some degree memory processing, in addition to some impairment of memory processing. Expand
Dianthus superbus fructus suppresses airway inflammation by downregulating of inducible nitric oxide synthase in an ovalbumin-induced murine model of asthma
TLDR
DSE effectively protects against allergic airway inflammation by downregulating of iNOS expression and that DSE has potential as a therapeutic agent for allergic asthma. Expand
Chinese herbal extracts of Rubia cordifolia and Dianthus superbus suppress IgE production and prevent peanut-induced anaphylaxis
TLDR
The extracts of Rubia cordifolia and Dianthus superbus inhibited the IgE production in vivo and in vitro as well as reduced anaphylactic reactions in peanut-allergic mice, suggesting potentials for allergy treatments. Expand
Activation of apoptosis by ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of Dianthus superbus in HepG2 cell line.
TLDR
The results suggest that apoptosis of HepG2 cells induced by EE-DS could be through the mitochondrial intrinsic pathway, and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) data showed that the composition of EE- DS is complicated. Expand
