Aronia melanocarpa (A. melanocarpa) berries are a fruit with a marked antioxidant effect. The objective of this study was to confirm the effect of A. melanocarpa berries extract against scopolamine-induced memory impairment in mice using the Morris water maze and passive avoidance test. Moreover, we determined a possible mechanism of the cognitive-enhancing effect involving AChE activity and BDNF and p-CREB expression in the hippocampus of mice. A. melanocarpa berries extract attenuated the… Expand
Neuroprotective Effect and Molecular Mechanism of [6]-Gingerol against Scopolamine-Induced Amnesia in C57BL/6 Mice
The results suggest that GIN may have preventive and/or therapeutic potentials in the management of memory deficit and cognitive impairment in mice with amnesia. Expand
Nacre extract prevents scopolamine-induced memory deficits in rodents
Objective: To investigate whether the extract from the nacreous layer of pearl oysters (nacre extract) improves impairments in memory caused by scopolamine administration in rodents. Methods: NacreExpand
The Effect of Long-Term Aronia melanocarpa Extract Supplementation on Cognitive Performance, Mood, and Vascular Function: A Randomized Controlled Trial in Healthy, Middle-Aged Individuals
AME supplementation showed an indication of beneficial effects on cognitive performance and blood pressure in individuals at risk of cognitive decline. Expand
WS-5 Extract of Curcuma longa, Chaenomeles sinensis, and Zingiber officinale Contains Anti-AChE Compounds and Improves β-Amyloid-Induced Memory Impairment in Mice
The animal study showed that WS-5 (250 mg/kg) treatment improved learning and suppressed memory impairment as well as reduced Aβ plaque accumulation in Aβ-induced AD. Expand
Cognitive-Enhancing, Ex Vivo Antilipid Peroxidation and Qualitative Phytochemical Evaluation of the Aqueous and Methanolic Stem Bark Extracts of Lonchocarpus eriocalyx (Harms.)
In this study, the Morris Water Maze method was used to evaluate in vivo cognitive-enhancing effects of studied extracts of L. eriocalyx, and it showed that mice that were treated with the studied plant extracts took significantly shorter transfer latencies, navigation distances, and significantly longer latencies in the target quadrant (NW) compared with the negative control mice, indicating cognitive- enhancement activities. Black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) extracts in terms of geroprotector criteria
Abstract Background Black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa (Micht.) Elliot) is a great dietary source of a wide range of biologically active compounds, such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, other phenolicExpand
Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) fruit extract modulates immune response in vivo and in vitro
Abstract Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is known for its anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-diabetic properties. Since the effects of chokeberry extract on the immune response have been onlyExpand
In Vivo Cognitive-Enhancing, Ex Vivo Malondialdehyde-Lowering Activities and Phytochemical Profiles of Aqueous and Methanolic Stem Bark Extracts of Piliostigma thonningii (Schum.)
P. thonningii extracts, especially the aqueous ones have a promising potential for the management of AD-associated CI, and further studies aimed at isolating and characterizing specific active compounds for CI from P. th onningii are recommended. Expand
Assessment of Hepatoprotective Effect of Chokeberry Juice in Rats Treated Chronically with Carbon Tetrachloride
Chokeberry juice did not demonstrate an antifibrotic effect in the applied experimental model of fibrosis, and the effect of the known antifIBrotic agent, silymarin, was very limited. Expand
Composition, polyphenol bioavailability, and health benefits of aronia berry: a review
Aronia berries (Aronia melanocarpa and Aronia mitschurinii) are underutilized functional food, rich in bioactives. Aronia berries have abundant levels of anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, flavonols,Expand

Effect of Aronia Melanocarpa Fruit Juice on Fearning and Memory in the Two-Way Active Avoidance Task in Rats
The findings from the present study suggest that AMFJ applied subchronically improved learning and memory in young/healthy rats. Expand
Memory Effects Of Aronia Melanocarpa Fruit Juice In A Passive Avoidance Test In Rats
It is suggested that Aronia melanocarpa fruit juice could improve memory in rats, probably due to the polyphenolic ingredients of the juice which have been shown to be involved in learning and memory processes. Expand
Scopolamine effects on memory retention in mice: a model of dementia?
The overall results indicate that pretraining administration of scopolamine impairs learning and to some degree memory processing, in addition to some impairment of memory processing. Expand
Chronic scopolamine-injection-induced cognitive deficit on reward-directed instrumental learning in rat is associated with CREB signaling activity in the cerebral cortex and dorsal hippocampus
The results suggest that scopolamine-induced cognitive deficits on RDIL are related to the distinguishing alteration of CREB signaling in the DH and CCx. Expand
Protective effect of Aronia melanocarpa polyphenols against cadmium-induced disorders in bone metabolism: a study in a rat model of lifetime human exposure to this heavy metal.
It is suggested that consumption of Aronia melanocarpa polyphenols may play a role in prevention against female skeleton damage due to chronic exposure to Cd and that chokeberry represents the good natural plant candidate for further investigations of its prophylactic use under environmental exposure to this heavy metal. Involvement of oxidative stress in the enhancement of acetylcholinesterase activity induced by amyloid beta-peptide
The data obtained show that the enhancement of AChE activity induced by Abeta(25-35) is mediated by oxidative stress, and that vitamin E and NOS inhibitors can have an important role in the maintenance of acetylcholine synaptic levels, thus preventing or improving cognitive and memory functions of AD patients.
