The coconut is called the tree of life for it has been providing us, humans, food and drink, materials for housing, fuel and many industrial uses. [] Key Method The first clinical trial ever of ML was on 15 HIV-infected patients reporting regularly at the San Lazaro Hospital, Manila who, never having received any anti-HIV medication, were randomly assigned to 3 treatment groups: 7.2 g ML, 2.4 g ML and 50 ML of coconut oil daily for 6 months. The San Lazaro Hospital Team was led by Eric Tayag.
Virgin Coconut Oil for HIV-Positive People
TLDR
The conclusion is that Virgin Coconut Oil supplementation 3 x 15 ml/day for 6 weeks increases CD4 + T lymphocyte concentration in HIV patient.
Preliminary study on the In-Vitro Susceptibility of Mycobacterium tuberculosis Isolates to Virgin Coconut Oil
TLDR
The result of the study suggests the potential of VCOs agent against the growth of M. tuberculosis is suggested, but more studies are needed to replicate the studies using different concentrations of V COs, lauric acid and other fatty acids in VCO such as myristic acid, caproic or caprylic acids.
Antimicrobial effects of virgin coconut oil and its medium-chain fatty acids on Clostridium difficile.
TLDR
The growth inhibition of C. difficile mediated by medium-chain fatty acids derived from VCO is demonstrated, as determined by a reduction in colony-forming units per milliliter.
Antibacterial activity of enzymatic hydrolysis of Virgin Coconut Oil against Salmonella.
TLDR
In-vitro and in-vivo antibacterial activity of the enzymatic hydrolysis of VCO (VCOH) which generates a combination of lauric acid and monolaurin against Salmonella was found to have zone of inhibition that significantly increased which directly proportional with increased concentration.
Using the world's oldest oil as a remedy to cure emerging new diseases.
TLDR
Along with its numerous beneficial health effects, coconut oil has proven to be effective against heart disease, cancer and diabetes which are considered as emerging new diseases simply because of the adoption of modern lifestyle of the people.
Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and analgesic potential of cocos nucifera linn.: a review.
TLDR
This review emphasizes on the recent literature and research findings that highlight the significant biological activities of C. nucifera Linn.
Nutrition and Health Aspects of Coconut
TLDR
Research indicates that tender coconut water and mature coconut water can reduce the occurrence of lifestyle diseases and has significant hypocholesterolemic, antioxidant and antithrombotic effects.
Antibacterial activity of aqueous garlic (Allium sativum) extracts and virgin coconut oil and their combination against Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579 and Escherichia coli ATCC 8939.
TLDR
The results of this study showed that NVCO is notfective but antibacterial activity increased by hydrolysis (HVCO) which is more effective on Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.
Fermented Coconut Milk and Coconut Oil
The scientific name for coconut is Cocos nucifera. It is called coco, meaning “monkey face,” by early Spanish explorers, as the three notches on the hairy nut resemble the head and face of a monkey.

Fatty Acids and Derivatives as Antimicrobial Agents
TLDR
The structural relationships of 30 straight-chain fatty acids and derivatives and their bactericidal properties were studied and it is indicated that C12 (lauric acid) is the most inhibitory saturated fatty acid against gram-positive organisms.
COCONUT WATER AS AN INTRAVENOUS FLUID
  • Medicine
  • 1963
TLDR
In South Africa J. A. Hof'meyrhas described his experience with this procedure as medical officer of an African district several hundred square miles in extent, and found it an ideal procedure in cases of small outlet in an otherwise fair pelvis, and in Cases of malrotation.
IN VITRO EFFECTS OF MONOLAURIN COMPOUNDS ON ENVELOPED RNA AND DNA VIRUSES 1
TLDR
Monolaurin with BHA was the most effective virucidal agent in that it removed all measurable infectivity from all of the viruses tested and reduced infectivity by disintegrating the virus envelope.
Antimicrobial Action of Esters of Polyhydric Alcohols
A broth dilution method was used to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration of a series of fatty acid esters of polyhydric alcohols against gram-negative and gram-positive organisms.
