SummaryThe central positions of neuron somata with processes in pedal nerves was determined by cobalt chloride backfilling. From six to fourteen, successful backfills were obtained for the paired anterior, medial, posterior and labial-cutaneous pedal nerves. The results, summarized in drawings, revealed the following:1.Neurons from many central ganglia send axons into pedal nerves. For the pedal nerves studied, neuron somata were found in both pedal ganglia, the ipsilateral pleural ganglion… Expand

Localization of serotonin in the nervous system of Biomphalaria glabrata, an intermediate host for schistosomiasis
TLDR
The central distribution of 5HTli neurons suggests that, as in other gastropods, serotonin regulates the locomotion, reproductive, and feeding systems of Biomphalaria, and the projections to the foot and body wall indicate that serotonin may also participate in defensive, nociceptive, or inflammation responses. Resolution of intraneuronal and transynaptic migration of cobalt in the insect visual and central nervous systems
TLDR
A block modification of the Timm's enhancement procedure is described which will reveal the finest details of neurons in thick sections and will also reveal nerve cells that have taken up minute quantities of CoCl2 after passage across at least two synapses. Expand
Pedal wave recovery following transection of pedal nerves in the slug, Limax maximus.
TLDR
The results suggest that coordinated pedal waves can be maintained on parts of the sole that lack direct connections with the CNS by spread of excitation through the peripheral plexus of the foot. Expand
Branching of Central Neurons: Intracellular Cobalt Injection for Light and Electron Microscopy
TLDR
In whole mount preparations, the resolution of neurites within the neuropil is of a quality that permits the comparison of branching patterns between cells and during various functional states. Expand
Neurons of Insects: RNA Changes during Injury and Regeneration
TLDR
The perinuclear ring of RNA provides a marker for linking an individual central nerve cell body to a particular peripheral axon and the muscle it innervates. Expand
