Aggressive Behavior (AGG) and Rule-Breaking Behavior (RB) are two of the eight CBCL syndromes. The phenotypic correlation between AGG and RB ranges from .48 to .76, and varies depending on the rater and the sex of the child. Prevalence of AGG and RB (i.e., T ≥ 67) is in the range of 6%–7% in both boys and girls. Fifty percent to 60% of the children who are deviant on AGG are also deviant on RB and vice versa. Why so many children show problem behavior in the clinical range for both syndromes is…

Do etiological influences on aggression overlap with those on rule breaking? A meta-analysis
- PsychologyPsychological Medicine
- 2012
The conclusion that etiological influences on AGG are partially distinct from those on RB persisted across several potential moderators, and the age of the sample and the informant used were found to moderate the extent of overlap.

In both sexes, the latent variable reflecting the mother's and child's shared perception of the child's relational aggression was substantially influenced by both additive genetic and shared environmental influences, although this latent variable accounted for much greater variance in the maternal report than it did in the youth report.

The development of antisocial behaviour from childhood to adolescence
- PsychologyEuropean Child & Adolescent Psychiatry

The results suggest that there are sex differences in the development of ASB, and the hypothesis that the aggressive pathway is genetically mediated was supported in girls, whereas the hypotheses that the nonaggressive pathway is environmentally dependent was support in boys.

The results highlighted the differential heritability of the different indicators of aggression measured with the Childhood Behavior Checklist, with destruction of property showing a very high genetic component during early childhood and fighting behaviors being more heritable in early adolescence.
