With the growing popularity of clusters, their usage in diverse application domains poses interesting challenges. At one extreme, we find clusters taking on the role of supercomputing engines to tackle the ”grand challenges” at different national laboratories. At the other extreme, clusters have also become the ”poor man’s” parallel computer (on a smaller scale).
