The definitions of breaks and clusters in a one-dimensional chain in equilibrium are discussed. Analytical expressions are obtained for the expected cluster length, 〈K〉, as a function of temperature and pressure in a one-dimensional Lennard-Jones chain. These expressions are compared with results from molecular dynamics simulations. It is found that 〈K〉 increases exponentially with β=1/k_{B}T and with pressure, P in agreement with previous results in the literature. A method is illustrated for…

N-break states in a chain of nonlinear oscillators.
- MathematicsPhysical review. E
- 2019
This work finds that the most fundamental one-break solution changes stability when the monotonicity of the Hamiltonian changes with d, and conjecture that k-break solutions will possess at least k-1 (and at most k) pairs of unstable eigenvalues.
Clustering and assembly dynamics of a one-dimensional microphase former.
- PhysicsSoft matter
- 2018
This work studies the disordered regime of a one-dimensional SALR model, whose simplicity enables detailed analysis by transfer matrices and Monte Carlo simulations, and finds that cluster moves markedly accelerate the mixing time, but that event chains are of limited help in the clustering regime.
Universal scaling in active single-file dynamics.
- PhysicsSoft matter
- 2020
A universal scaling behavior in the single-file dynamics of interacting active particles is revealed, including multiple peaks that are reminiscent of particle clustering induced by effective attractive interactions, while the dynamical variant shows non-diffusive scaling.
