A formula for photoabsorptiion cross sections of hydrogen ans alkali-metal atoms in a static electric field is derived, based on the closed-orbit theory previously used to study hydrogen in a magnetic field. Electric fields are simpler than magnetic fileds, because the classical motion is regular and closed orbits can be enumerated. In alkali metals the core modifies the relevant dipole matrix elements, and it produces additional phase shifts

In the group of Delos" a semiclassical theory has been developed to explain the oscillations observed in the near-threshold absorption spectrum of hydrogenlike atoms in extemal fields. This theory

Absorption and Recurrence Spectra of Li Rydberg Atom in Perpendicular Electric and Magnetic Fields

We develop the semi-closed orbit theory from two degrees of freedom to three non-separable degrees of freedom and put forward a new model potential for the Li Rydberg atom, which reduces the study of

Scaled-energy spectroscopy of strontium M = 0 Rydberg atoms in an electric field

Scaled-energy spectroscopy for strontium M = 0 Rydberg atoms in an electric field is studied. Fourier transformed recurrence spectra are compared with a hydrogenic closed-orbit calculation with the

Semiclassical calculation of recurrence spectra of Rydberg He 2 + molecular ion in a magnetic field

Making use of the molecular closed-orbit theory and a new model potential for the Rydberg molecule, we have calculated the recurrence spectra of He2+ molecular ion in a magnetic field for different

Extracting Closed Classical Orbits from Quantum Recurrence Spectra of a Non-Hydrogenic Atom in Parallel Electric and Magnetic Fields

We show how to extract the closed orbits from the quantum spectra data. According to the closed orbit theory, each closed orbit produces a sharp peak in the recurrence spectra of a non-hydrogenic

Semiclassical calculation of ionisation rate for Rydberg helium atoms in an electric field

The ionisation of Rydberg helium atoms in an electric field above the classical ionisation threshold has been examined using the semiclassical method, with particular emphasis on discussing the

Scaled-energy spectroscopy of strontium atoms in an electric field

Strontium atoms in the ground state were excited to higher \MI\= 1 Rydberg states while the laser wavelength (transition energy E) and the electric field strength (F) were scanned simultaneously to

The recurrence spectra of Rydberg HeH+ molecule ion in a magnetic field.

This work calculates the recurrence spectra of HeH(+) molecule ion in a magnetic field for different quantum defects and finds that the spectral modulations can be analyzed in terms of the scattering of the excited electron on the molecular core.

Determination of bifurcations from recurrence peaks of electronic wavepackets in an electric field

A new and simple way to determine the bifurcations of electron orbits in an electric field is presented. From the quantum-mechanical wavepacket motion the classical energies at which new orbits
