Sucrose synthase 2 (SuSy2) is a key enzyme regulating sucrose metabolism in higher plants, which promotes sucrose into various metabolic pathways. The degenerated oligonucleotides to highly conserved region of SuSy2 were used to prime the amplification of specific fragment by PCR in samples of sugarcane DNA. One fragment of about 7.5 kb was cloned and its complete nucleotide sequence was determined.
