The Puccinellia tenuifolra cDNA libraries were expressed in yeast ( Saccharomyces cerevisiae ) and screened on agar plates containing toxic concentrations of aluminum. Ninteen cDNAs were isolated that enhanced the aluminum tolerance of yeast. One cDNA, named PutSTE24, has a ORF of 1 275 bp, encoding a predicted protein containing 424 amino acid, and has a high similarity of 77% to STE24 in Arabidopsis thilinana .
