Simple Summary Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Although novel therapy regimens using immuno- and targeted therapy have improved survival for a subgroup of patients with lung cancer, the five-year survival rate is still poor. The inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family represents a heterogeneous group of anti-apoptotic proteins that are highly expressed in a variety of human malignancies. Despite conflicting results regarding the prognostic significance of…

Nuclear survivin is a prognosticator in gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms: a meta-analysis

Gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neosplasms (GEP-NEN) are biologically heterogenous tumors with an increasing incidence over the past decades. Although efforts have been made in the treatment of

Expression of X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis as a novel prognostic marker in radically resected non-small cell lung cancer patients.

The unexpected inverse correlation of XIAP with proliferation markers and the absence of correlation with apoptotic index, coupled with its role as an independent positive prognostic factor for survival in radically resected NSCLC patients imply a more complex role for XIAP in tumor biology than anticipated by in vitro data.

Expression of inhibitors of apoptosis (IAP) proteins in non-small cell human lung cancer

The results indicate an involvement of the anti-apoptotic XIAP in pathogenesis of NSCLC, while hIAP-1 preferentially seems to play an important role in low-stage adenocarcinoma.

Nuclear localization of survivin is a positive prognostic factor for survival in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer.

Results indicate that differential localization of survivin may be a prognostic factor for NSCLC and Interestingly, nuclear survivin levels predicted longer overall and relapse-free survival, in univariate and multivariate analyses.

Nuclear survivin in pN2 nonsmall cell lung cancer: prognostic and clinical implications

It is concluded that nuclear survivin is strongly related to lymph node metastasis and proliferative potentials in pathological N2 nonsmall cell lung cancer patients.

Elevated BIRC6 protein expression in NSCLC tissues was associated with poor 3-year relapse-free patient survival, lymph node involvement, and advanced pathological tumor, node, metastasis stage, and down-regulation of the BIRC 6 gene as a therapeutic approach may be effective, especially in combination with conventional chemotherapeutics.

Survivin expression is an independent poor prognostic marker in lung adenocarcinoma but not in squamous cell carcinoma

It is suggested that survivin is an independent negative prognostic factor in adenocarcinoma, but not in squamous cell carcinoma, which highlights the biological differences between these two histologic types.

Significance of survivin expression: Prognostic value and survival in stage III non-small cell lung cancer.

The 5-year survival rate of patients with positive survivin expression was significantly lower compared with the survivin-negative cancer patients (P<0.05), and the expression of survivin in NSCLC correlated with tumor size.

A multiple marker analysis of apoptosis-associated protein expression in non-small cell lung cancer in a Chinese population.

It is indicated that apoptosis- -associated proteins may impact a variety of clinicopathological features of NSCLC and may co-operatively influence the prognosis of patients with this malignant tumor.
