Clinical and endoscopic study of early gastric cancer. Report of fifteen cases and review of Chinese literature.

Abstract

During 1974 to 1979, 15 early gastric cancers were found in a total of 160 patients with gastric cancer. There were 12 males and three females aged from 36 to 70 years. The gross morphologic classification based on the endoscopic appearances was IIa one case, IIb one case, IIc five cases and III (or with IIc) eight cases. The diagnosis was confirmed by endoscopic biopsy in 12 patients. The histopathology of the 15 resected specimens revealed adenocarcinoma. Fourteen patients are alive one to four years after subtotal gastrectomy.
