Over the past few years there have been substantial advances in our knowledge of premalignant lesions of the pancreas. Given the dismal prognosis of untreated pancreatic cancer, and the small proportion of patients who are operative candidates, an understanding of these premalignant lesions is essential for the development of strategies for early diagnosis and prevention.
