Citicoline is a choline donor involved in the biosynthesis of brain phospholipids and acetylcholine extensively used in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. In this study we investigated the effects of the oral administration of citicoline alone (C1000:1000 mg/day; C500:500 mg/day) or in combination with nimodipine (C +NI:300 + 90 mg/day) during 4 weeks on memory performance in elderly subjects with memory deficits and without dementia (N = 24; age = 66.12 +/- 10.78 years; MMS score… Expand

Citicoline shows promise of clinical efficacy in elderly patients with cognitive deficits, inefficient memory, and early-stage Alzheimer's disease and appears useful for improving both the structural integrity and functionality of the neuronal membrane that may assist in membrane repair. Expand
Citicoline and Memory Function in Healthy Older Adults: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial
Dietary supplementation of citicoline for 12 wk improved overall memory performance, especially episodic memory, in healthy older males and females with AAMI, suggesting that regular consumption ofciticoline may be safe and potentially beneficial against memory loss due to aging. Expand
Linopirdine (DUP 996): Cholinergic Treatment of Older Adults Using Successive and Non-successive Tests
The conclusion is that DUP 996 does not improve memory performance either in explicit, implicit or primary tests. Expand
Oral Cerebrolysin enhances brain alpha activity and improves cognitive performance in elderly control subjects.
The data indicate that Cerebrolysin potentiates brain alpha activity, reduces slow EEG delta frequencies and improves memory performance in healthy elderly humans, suggesting that this compound activates cerebral mechanisms related to attention and memory processes. Expand
Citicoline enhances frontal lobe bioenergetics as measured by phosphorus magnetic resonance spectroscopy
Data show that citicoline improves frontal lobe bioenergetics and alters phospholipid membrane turnover and may help to mitigate cognitive declines associated with aging by increasing energy reserves and utilization, as well as increasing the amount of essential phospholIPid membrane components needed to synthesize and maintain cell membranes. Protective Effects of Citicoline and Benfotiamine Each Alone and in Combination on Streptozotocin-induced Memory Impairment in Mice
Co-administration of benfotiamine and citicoline was more effective than either alone in improving memory in passive avoidance test, and although benfOTiamine added tociticoline improved memory notably, the difference between combination therapy and single-drug therapy was not considerable. Expand
Tratamiento del deterioro cognitivo leve: utilidad de la citicolina
Evaluating whether citilcoline can be effective in the treatment of mild cognitive impairment found it to be effective, although more studies are needed in order to check whether the effect continues in the long term and whether it manages to slow down the progression to dementia. Expand
Citicoline Treatment Improves Measures of Impulsivity and Task Performance in Chronic Marijuana Smokers: A Pilot BOLD fMRI Study
It is suggested that citicoline may facilitate the treatment of MJ use disorders by improving the cognitive skills necessary to fully engage in comprehensive treatment programs. Expand
Long-Term Citicoline (Cytidine Diphosphate Choline) Use in Patients with Vascular Dementia: Neuroimaging and Neuropsychological Outcomes
The efficacy of long-term citicoline treatment for cognitive impairment and neuropathological decline in those patients already meeting criteria for VaD does not appear to be substantiated by the current study. Expand
Cytidinediphosphocholine (CDP-choline) for cognitive and behavioural disturbances associated with chronic cerebral disorders in the elderly.
There was some evidence that CDP-choline has a positive effect on memory and behaviour in at least the short to medium term, but the evidence of benefit from global impression was stronger, but is limited by the duration of the studies. Expand
