Administered intraperitoneally to rats at 1 mg/kg, citalopram, a potent and selective inhibitor of serotonin uptake, significantly increased dialysate serotonin in the dorsal raphe, but not in the frontal cortex. At 10 mg/kg citalopram had a greater effect on raphe serotonin and a moderate and short-lasting increase in the dialysate serotonin in the frontal cortex.
