Summary Cistanche salsa (C.A. Meyer) G. Beck, Orobanchaceae is a parasitic plant that is used as an oriental medicinal tonic in Japan. In this study, we show that the extract prepared from C. salsa enhanced antibody production in human lymph node lymphocytes (LNL). The production of IgM and IgG was shown to be enhanced 5-fold. The extract also induced interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) expression on surface immunoglobulin positive B cells in LNL. These results raise a possibility that the antibody… Expand
Bioactivity of high-molecular-weight constituents of Cistanche tubulosa
Cistanche tubulosa (Schrenk) R. Wight is traditionally eaten in Hotan in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, an area known for longevity and oasis in the Takla-Makan Desert. In this study, weExpand
Chemical constituents and in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of Cistanche violacea Desf. (Orobanchaceae) extract.
TLDR
This study demonstrates, for the first time, the effectiveness of C. violacea in combating inflammation, this might be believed to be influenced by the synergistic action of the above isolated compounds. Expand
Antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties of extracts of Asparagus setaceous Kunth and Caesalpinia volkensii Harm
TLDR
This study investigated the mode of action of two Kenyan plants namely Asparagus setaceous Kunth and Caesalpinia volkensii, and found it not clear how extracts of these two plants exert theirbeneficial and therapeutic effects. Expand
Investigation into the Antioxidant and Antidiabetic Potential of Moringa stenopetala: Identification of the Active Principles
TLDR
The present investigation into the therapeutic potential of the leaves and seeds of the plant revealed no inhibitory effect against α-glucosidase enzyme up to the concentration of 200 μg/mL but the leaves extract displayed potent DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging effect, which resulted in the identification of the major antioxidant compound as rutin and minor active component, neochlorogenic acid. Herba Cistanche (Rou Cong-Rong): One of the Best Pharmaceutical Gifts of Traditional Chinese Medicine
TLDR
There have been an increasing number of studies focusing on its bio-activities, including antioxidation, neuroprotection, and antiaging, which are addressed in this review. Expand
Antidiabetic Activity of a Flavonoid-Rich Extract From Sophora davidii (Franch.) Skeels in KK-Ay Mice via Activation of AMP-Activated Protein Kinase
TLDR
Results indicated that SD-FRE has the potential to alleviate type 2 diabetes and promoted GLUT4 expression and activated AMPK phosphorylation in insulin target tissues of KK-Ay mice, thus facilitating glucose utilization to ameliorate insulin resistance. Expand
Orobanchaceae plants of israel and palestine. Chemical and medicinal treasures
Orobanchaceae plant family is one of the most interesting plant families in our region. It is represented by small number of plants and some of them attracted major interest while others have beenExpand
Cistanches Herba: An overview of its chemistry, pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics property.
TLDR
Phenylethanoid glycosides have demonstrated wide pharmacological actions and have great clinical value if challenges such as poor bioavailability, fast and extensive metabolism are addressed. Expand
Moroccan antidiabetic medicinal plants: Ethnobotanical studies, phytochemical bioactive compounds, preclinical investigations, toxicological validations and clinical evidences; challenges, guidance and perspectives for future management of diabetes worldwide
TLDR
The results showed that these compounds manage diabetes by several mechanisms such as enzymatic inhibition, interference with glucose and lipid metabolism signaling pathways, and the inhibition and/or the activation of gene expression involved in glucose homeostasis. Expand
MORPHOLOGICAL AND MOLECULAR GENETICS CHARAC- TERIZATION OF HOLOPARASITIC PLANT, Cistanche phelypea L. IN SIWA OASIS, EGYPT
TLDR
For the first time in Egypt, morphological, chemical study, RAPD molecular markers and biochemical genetic analysis of Peroxidase isozymes were carried out in order to identify the genetical and morphological description of the species including the identification of genetic variation in the studied populations. TLDR
ACDP-2 showed an effect in stimulating the immune response, which when applied onto the cultured mouse lymphocytes induced the cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. Expand
Inability to produce IL-6 is a functional feature of human germinal center B lymphocytes.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that loss of IL-6 secretion is a functional characteristic of human GC B lymphocytes, and the swap from an autocrine to a paracrine IL- 6 response may permit a better control of B cell growth and differentiation during the germinal center reaction. Expand
PROMOTION OF REPLICATION IN LYMPHOID CELLS BY SPECIFIC THIOLS AND DISULFIDES IN VITRO
TLDR
Numerous lines of mouse lymphoid tumors showed, with increased sensitivity, a property of normal mouse splenic lymphocytes, the potential for growth promotion in vitro by specific thiols added to standard culture media, but the response varied with the mitogen preparation used and under some conditionsThiols-disulfides were inhibitory. In vitro immunization of human lymphocytes with human lung cancer cell line A549.
TLDR
The efficiency of acquisition of hybridomas producing specific antibodies with the in vitro immunized lymphocytes was about 10-fold higher than that with lymphocytes spontaneously immunized in bodies of lung cancer patients. Expand
Human-human hybridomas secreting antibodies specific to human lung carcinoma

CD40 ligand triggers interleukin-6 mediated B cell differentiation.
TLDR
These studies suggest that CD40L augments Ig secretion in at least two mechanisms: by triggering IL-6 secretion and related differentiation, and by priming B cells for responsiveness to IL-10. Expand
