We present optical broad- and narrow-band imaging of a sample of a dozen barred galaxies. These images are analyzed in conjunction with our previously published near-infrared imaging of their central regions and with literature values for, e.g., bar strengths and the total star formation activity of the galaxies. We present B, I and Himages, and radial profiles derived from these, to infer geometric and dynamical parameters of the structural components of the galaxies, such as bar lengths, bar… Expand
A SINFONI View of Galaxy Centers: Morphology and Kinematics of Five Nuclear Star Formation-Rings
We present near-infrared (H- and K-band) integral-field observations of the circumnuclear star formation rings in five nearby spiral galaxies. The data, obtained at the Very Large Telescope with theExpand
Nuclear Activity in Circumnuclear Ring Galaxies
We have analyzed the frequency and properties of the nuclear activity in a sample of galaxies with circumnuclear rings and spirals (CNRs). This sample was compared with a control sample of galaxiesExpand
SDSS-IV MaNGA: The link between bars and the early cessation of star formation in spiral galaxies
Bars are common in low-redshift disk galaxies, and hence quantifying their influence on their host is of importance to the field of galaxy evolution. We determine the stellar populations and starExpand
Bar pattern speed and position of the circumnuclear ring in NGC 1097
Active galactic nuclei and bursts of star formation are two distinct phenomena that amply change their host environments. They are present in a significant number of galaxies at all redshifts. InExpand
The near-infrared structure of the barred galaxy NGC 253 from VISTA
Context. The presence of a bar affects the distribution and dynamics of a stellar disk at all scales, from a fraction of a kpc in the inner central region to tens of kpc at the disk’s edge. TheExpand
Molecular gas in the centre of nearby galaxies from VLT/SINFONI integral field spectroscopy – I. Morphology and mass inventory★
We present the first results of an analysis of the properties o f the molecular gas in the nuclear regions (r. 300 pc) of a sample of six nearby galaxies, based on new high spatial resolutionExpand
The connection between star formation and metallicity evolution in barred spiral galaxies
We have performed a series of chemodynamical simulations of barred disc galaxies. Our goal is to determine the physical processes responsible for the increase in the central gas-phase metallicity andExpand
Structure and star formation in disk galaxies III. Nuclear and circumnuclear Hα emission
From Hα images of a carefully selected sample of 57 relatively large, Northern spiral galaxies with low inclination, we study the distribution of the Hα emission in the circumnuclear and nuclearExpand
Non-circular motion evidence in the circumnuclear region of M100 (NGC 4321)
We analyse new integral field spectroscopy of the inner region (central 2.5 kpc) of the spiral galaxy NGC 4321 to study the peculiar kinematics of this region. Fourier analysis of the velocityExpand
Molecular Gas in NUclei of GAlaxies (NUGA) - IX. The decoupled bars and gas inflow in NGC 2782
We present CO(1-0) and CO(2-1) maps of the starburst/Seyfert1 galaxy NGC2782 obtained with the IRAM interferometer, at 2. 1×1. '' 5 and 0. 7×0. '' 6 resolution respectively. The CO emission isExpand

Global morphology and physical relations between the stars, gas and dust in the disc and arms of M100
We study star formation processes in the disc of the weakly barred grand design spiral galaxy M100 (NGC 4321) from a variety of images tracing recent massive star formation, old and young stars,Expand
The morphology of the stars, atomic gas, and ionized gas in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1530
We present observations of the barred spiral galaxy NGC 1530 that we use to investigate the overall structure and gas content of the galaxy. We use sensitive H alpha Fabry-Perot observations of theExpand
We present new high-resolution observations of the central region in the late-type spiral galaxy M100 (NGC 4321) supplemented by three-dimensional numerical modeling of stellar and gas dynamics,Expand
NGC 4314. II - Hubble Space Telescope I-band surface photometry of the nuclear region
We present an HST I-band Planetary Camera image of the nuclear region of NGC 4314, an anemic barred galaxy with recent star formation confined to a nuclear ring. These data resolve the nuclear ringExpand
Nuclear star formation in the hotspot galaxy NGC 2903
We present high-resolution near-infrared imaging obtained using adaptive optics and HST/NICMOS, and ground-based spectroscopy of the hotspot galaxy NGC 2903. Our near-infrared resolution imagingExpand
The Gravitational Torque of Bars in Optically Unbarred and Barred Galaxies
The relative bar torques for 45 galaxies observed at K-band with the 4.2 m William Herschel Telescope are determined by transforming the light distributions into potentials and deriving the maximumExpand
Deficiency of "Thin" Stellar Bars in Seyfert Host Galaxies.
It is found that the bar ellipticities in Seyfert galaxies are systematically different from those in nonactive galaxies, and possible theoretical explanations are discussed within the framework of galactic evolution and radial gas redistribution in barred galaxies. Expand
The Starburst-Active Galactic Nucleus Connection in Active Galaxies: The MassiveNuclear Star-Forming Disk in NGC 4303
Two-dimensional spectroscopy of the low-redshift active galaxy NGC 4303 obtained with the Two-Dimensional Fiber ISIS System is presented. The ionization structure and velocity field of the nuclearExpand
Far-Infrared Census of Starburst-Seyfert Connection
