BACKGROUND Vasopressin has haemodynamic as well as osmoregulatory effects, and reflects the individual stress response. Copeptin is co-synthesized with vasopressin, directly mirroring vasopressin levels, but is more stable in plasma and serum. Both levels are increased in patients with septic shock.
