To determine prognostic factors in patients with chronic otitis media who develop suppurative complications, we performed a retrospective study of all patients with chronic suppurative otitis media who underwent mastoid surgery between the years 1981 and 1989. Patients who developed complications were compared with those who did not with respect to six prognostic variables.
