In hypertensive animals and patients, oxidative stress represents the primary risk factor for progression of left ventricular hypertrophy. Recently, it has been demonstrated that hydrogen, as a novel antioxidant, can selectively reduce hydroxyl radicals and peroxynitrite anion to exert therapeutic antioxidant activity.
