The Kasabach-Merritt syndrome (giant cutaneous hemangioma associated with thrombocytopenia) has been found frequently to include a consumption coagulopathy. Presented here is a similar situation occurring with a hemangiomatous transformation of the spleen. A 72-year-old Caucasian woman had had progressive splenomegaly of 2 years’ duration associated with pancytopenia and purpura. She had prolongation of prothrombin time and partial thromboplastin time, with moderate fibrinogenopenia… Expand
Chronic consumption coagulopathy due to an occult splenic haemangioma: Kasabach-Merritt syndrome
We report an 11-year-old girl with a 2-year histor of bruising associated with thrombocytopenia and dysfibrinogenaemia. On admission she presented with a large subcutaneous haematoma and splenomegalyExpand
DIFFUSE HEMANGIOMATOSIS, COAGULOPATHY AND MICROANGIOPATHIC HEMOLYTIC ANEMIA
TLDR
An autopsy case of a 30‐year‐old woman with systemic hemangiomatosis accompanied by coagulopathy and mlcroanpiopathfc hemoly‐tic anemia raised the possibility that the irradiation might lead to chronic localized consumption coagULopathy, which was confined to the hemangioma. Expand
Splenomegaly associated with chronic consumption coagulopathy.
TLDR
The data obtained show that a decreased concentration of clotting factors in patients with splenomegaly can be caused by local consumption alone, and the absence of an elevated FDP level distinguishes the findings from those found in consumption coagulopathy accompanying diffuse intravascular clotting. Expand
Splenic consumptive coagulopathy in a patient with disseminated lymphangiomatosis.
TLDR
The case of a 4-year-old boy with disseminated lymphangiomatosis in whom focal consumption in a diseased spleen was followed by a bleeding diathesis is reported, which resolved following splenectomy. Expand
Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation: Pathogenesis and Management
TLDR
The diagnosis of DIC is dependent on the presence of an appropriate clinical situation with concurrent laboratory evidence of thrombin and plasmin formation, and can be assessed by detection of fibrin monomer, fibrIn/fibrinogen degradation products, and D-dimer or E fragment, respectively. Expand
Giant Hemangioma with Coagulopathy
TLDR
The purpose of this paper is to present a patient with a truly giant heman gioma, associated with a bleeding tendency, and a review of the relevant literature is given. Expand
Isolated diffuse hemangiomatosis of the spleen with Kasabach–Merritt‐like syndrome
TLDR
The goal of this study was to characterize an additional case of isolated diffuse haemangiomatosis of the spleen and to determine the histogenesis of this lesion which remains obscure. Expand
Diffuse sinusoidal hemangiomatosis of the spleen. A case report with enzyme-histochemical, immunohistochemical, and electron-microscopic findings.
TLDR
This tumor could not be identified as any of the recognized tumors/tumor-like lesions of the spleen and it is therefore proposed that it should be designated diffuse sinusoidal hemangiomatosis. Expand
Cavernous Hemangioma of the Spleen; Angiographic Observations
A 65 year old female Arab patient was admitted because of swelling of the abdomen, which was first noted four months previously. In the past she had complained of weakness and loss of weight. ThereExpand
A CASE OF DIFFUSE HEMANGIOMATOSIS OF THE SPLEEN SUCCESSFULLY DIAGNOSED BEFORE OPERATION
TLDR
Although imaging diagnosis of hemangiomatosis of the spleen where lacks in blood supply is generally difficult, dynamic CT was beneficial for making the diagnosis in this case. Expand

TLDR
A sizable pool of splenic platelets has been demonstrated, which seems dependent on splenic size only, and increase in size of this pool in splenomegaly may be the sole reason for thrombocytopenia. Expand
