Cervical cone biopsies were obtained front patients with cyto logically abnormal cervical smears. Each cone was immersed in ice water immediately after excision and returned to the lab oratory. Up to four specimens for chromosome analysis were taken with a 2-mm biopsy punch from different sites in the re gion of the squamocolumnar junction.
