  title={Chordodes mizoramensis (Nematomorpha, Gordiida), a new species of horsehair worm from Mizoram, North-East India},
  author={A. Schmidt‐Rhaesa and Lalramliana},
  pages={1 - 8}
Abstract Chordodes mizoramensis, a new species of freshwater gordiid horsehair worm, is described from Mizoram, NE India on the basis of scanning electron microscopic and morphometric studies. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners in that the apical filaments of the crowned areoles are branched several times, a pattern that has not been observed in other species. An additional distinguishing character is that it has more bulging areoles, which are distributed among simple… Expand
A new horsehair worm, Chordodes formosanus sp. n. (Nematomorpha, Gordiida) from Hierodula mantids of Taiwan and Japan with redescription of a closely related species, Chordodes japonensis
A new species of horsehair worm is described and compared to a closely related species, Chordodes japonensis, and the significantly longer filaments on the female crowned areoles can be used as diagnostic characters for the new species. Expand
First report of the Gondwana genus Beatogordius from India, with further records of two Chordodes species (Gordiida, Nematomorpha)
Three horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) are recorded from Nagaland, India, which is the first report of the genus Beatogordius in India and this observation fits well into the Gondwana distribution ofThe genus. Expand
Chordodes combiareolatus, a new species of horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) from Nagaland, India, with further comments on Chordodes moutoni.
Two female specimens found on two occasions on a terrace paddy field in Tsupo, Viswema, Kohima, Nagaland, India are reported, one of which shows a new type of cuticular structure, the areoles, which combines characters of both simple areoles and tubercle areoles. Expand
New Records of Horsehair Worms (Nematomorpha) from India and a Summary of All Known Indian Species
Twenty-one species of the phylum Nematomorpha from India have been described. In this paper, Acutogordius sulawensis is reported for the first time in this country, with new locality records of someExpand
New Definitive Host Record for Chordodes morgani (Nematomorpha) in Nebraska with Notes on Ecology
ABSTRACT The life cycle and ecology of the horsehair worm Chordodes morgani (Nematomorpha) in Nebraska remain unknown. To identify its definitive host, we installed a series of pitfall traps along 3Expand
Morphological and molecular characterization of Gordius, a horse hairworm recovered from cricket
A large number of the animals studied in this study had never been studied in the field of Veterinary Parasitology or Microbiology before, so the design of the methodology and its application to livestock production and management was very surprising. Expand
Dwarf vs giant: An unexpected interaction between a small treefrog and a large nematode
An unexpected interaction between a large nematode species of Eustrongylides and an adult female of the dwarf treefrog Dendropsophus nanus is reported, pointing to the critical influence of parasite transmission in food webs. Expand

On the occurrence of Chordodes cf. furnessi (Nematomorpha) from praying mantis in India, and a note on Indian nematomorph species
Two worms collected from a praying mantis, Hierodula sp., in India were investigated using light and scanning electron microscopy for species determination. Three types of cuticular structuresExpand
New data on South American species of Chordodes (Nematomorpha)
Taxonomic characters of both male and female horse-hair worms Chordodes brasiliensis, and C. nobilii (Nematomorpha) and female of C. carmelitanus are re-described by scanning electron microscopy.Expand
Australian species of Chordodes (Nematomorpha) with a description of two new species, remarks on the genus Chordodes and its life history
Two new species of freshwater Nematomorpha from Australia are described: C. queenslandi and C. brevipilus, characterized by a polymorphism of crowned areoles which appear as two types with distinct distribution patterns. Expand
Horsehair Worms (Nematomorpha) as Parasites of Praying Mantids with a Discussion of their Life Cycle
Praying mantids (Mantoptera) are the most important hosts of horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) in tropical and subtropical regions worldwide and the factors influencing emergence from the hosts, which must be established close to water, remain not well understood. Expand
