Choline is an essential nutrient that is required t o maintain cell membrane integrity and structure, as Phosphatidylcholine is an important p hos holipid, which helps contributes to the formation of the lipid bilayer within the cell memb rane of each cell in the body. Choline is also required to transport fats in and out of cells , and is a building block (precursor) to the synthesis of acetylcholine an important neurotran smitter that is required for memory and other brain functions. 1,2

Choline is required to make essential membrane phospholipids. It is a precursor for the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine and also is an important source of labile methyl groups.Expand
CDP-choline: pharmacological and clinical review.
TLDR
It has been experimentally proven that CDP-choline increases noradrenaline and dopamine levels in the CNS, and pharmacological characteristics suggest that this drug may be suitable for the treatment of cerebral vascular disease, head trauma of varying severity and cognitive disorders of diverse etiology. New strategies in the management of Parkinson's disease: a biological approach using a phospholipid precursor (CDP-choline).
TLDR
The positive effect of CDP-choline on parkinsonian patients already treated with L-dopa + dopa decarboxylase inhibitor stands for a possible action on the DA receptor through an activation of the phospholipid metabolism. Expand
