In this study we evaluated the hyperglycemic and hyperlipidemic effects of chlorpyrifos (CPF) after an acute exposure in rats. The mechanisms involved in hyperglycemia induced by CPF were studied. A single dose of CPF (50 mg kg(-1), subcutaneous, s.c.) was administered to overnight-fasted rats. Glucose and corticosterone levels, lipid status and paraoxonase (PON1) activity were determined in plasma of rats. Cardiovascular risk factors and the atherogenic index were calculated. Glycogen levels… Expand
Protective effects of Zygophyllum album extract against deltamethrin-induced hyperglycemia and hepato-pancreatic disorders in rats.
TLDR
It is suggested that, owing to its antioxidant effects, methanolic extract of Z. album (MEZAL) can potentially prevent the hyperglycemia observed in DLM-treated group. Expand
Impact of Exposure to Fenitrothion on Vital Organs in Rats
TLDR
The results support the hazards of pesticide use and shows the importance of minimizing pesticide use or discovering new safe pesticides. Expand
Chronic co-exposure to chlorpyrifos and deltamethrin pesticides induces alterations in serum lipids and oxidative stress in Wistar rats: mitigating role of alpha-lipoic acid
TLDR
Co-exposure to DLT and CPF altered serum lipids and increased oxidative stress changes in the rats, which were ameliorated by ALA, partly through its antioxidant properties. Expand
Subacute chlorpyrifos-induced alterations in serum lipids and some oxidative stress biomarkers in male Wistar rats: beneficial effect of acetyl-L-carnitine
The present study evaluated the beneficial effect of acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) on subacute chlorpyrifos (CPF)-induced alterations in serum lipid profiles and some biomarkers of oxidative stress inExpand
Plasma paraoxonase1 activity in rats treated with monocrotophos: a study of the effect of duration of exposure
TLDR
This work provides rationale for studying whether the increase in PON1 activity observed in the present study serves to counter the deleterious effect of long term exposure to organophosphorus insecticides on metabolic homeostasis. Expand
Lipid metabolism disturbances contribute to insulin resistance and decrease insulin sensitivity by malathion exposure in Wistar rat
TLDR
For the first time, it is demonstrated that malathion induces insulin resistance in vivo using homeostasis model assessment and these changes were detectable one month after the end of exposure. Expand
Co-treatment of chlorpyrifos and lead induce serum lipid disorders in rats
TLDR
It was concluded that taurine may be used for prophylaxis against serum lipid disorders in animals that were constantly co-exposed to CP and Pb in the environment. Expand
Changes in glucose metabolism and mRNA expression of IRS-2 in rats exposed to phoxim and the protective effects of vitamin E.
TLDR
Overall, this study shows that vitamin E modifies the phoxim toxicity in rats only to a moderate degree. Expand
Effect of sub-toxic chlorpyrifos on redox sensitive kinases and insulin signaling in rat L6 myotubes
TLDR
It is concluded that sub-toxic chlorpyrifos exposure induces oxidative stress in muscle cells activating redox sensitive kinases that impairs insulin signaling and thereby insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in Muscle cells. Expand
Impact of chlorpyrifos on blood glucose concentration in an animal model: a systematic review and meta-analysis
TLDR
The present finding indicated the association between chlorpyrifos exposure and a decrease in blood glucose levels, and more studies should be designed to clarify this effect of chlorpyrsine exposure on blood glucose Levels and involved mechanisms. Expand

Reversible hyperglycemia in rats following acute exposure to acephate, an organophosphorus insecticide: role of gluconeogenesis.
TLDR
The results demonstrate that acephate causes reversible hyperglycemia in rats probably by enhancing hepatic glucose output via gluconeogenesis, and a role for hyperactivity of adrenal cortex is suggested in increased gluconeogenic activity. Expand

TLDR
Interestingly, pre-treatment of rats with acetylcholine (ACh) receptor antagonists-atropine sulfate and methyl atropine nitrate offered significant protection against hyperglycemia, hypercorticosteronemia and increased liver TAT activity induced by monocrotophos. Expand
Metabolic disorders of acute exposure to malathion in adult Wistar rats.
TLDR
It is indicated that malathion in acute exposure leads to a disruption of lipid metabolism with an enhancement in LDL and triglyceride contents and may play an important role in the development of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Expand
Altered glucose homeostasis and oxidative impairment in pancreas of rats subjected to dimethoate intoxication.
TLDR
Experimental evidence is provided that dimethoate at subchronic oral doses has the propensity to impair glucose homeostasis, induce significant pancreatic damage and also provide an account of the associated oxidative damage to pancreatic tissue in adult rats. Expand

Effect of chlorpyrifos on thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, scavenging enzymes and glutathione in rat tissues.
TLDR
Exposure of chlorpyrifos, a widely used pesticide in rats caused significant inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in different tissues viz., liver, kidney and spleen, and data provide evidence for induction of oxidative stress on CPF exposure. Expand
Effect of diazinon, an organophosphate insecticide, on plasma lipid constituents in experimental animals.
TLDR
Data suggest that diazinon may interfere with lipid metabolism in mammals, as measured in albino rats that were orally treated with a single dose or with repeated daily doses at the levels of 1/2, 1/8, and 1/32 LD(50) for 2, 8, and 32 days, respectively. Expand
